The UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences is the first public pharmacy school in the Los Angeles-Orange County region. Its faculty and programs span a continuum from discovery, development, and delivery of new drugs, devices, and diagnostics all the way to optimizing medication therapy in patients and patient populations. As part of the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, we actively collaborate with schools and programs in medicine, nursing, and population, public health, and the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute to educate, train, and mentor the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists and clinical pharmacists. Responsibilities:

Under general direction from the Sr. Assistant Dean for Business and Operations of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Director of Strategy & Operations is responsible for steering the coordinated achievements of the Dean's Office. This role entails enhancing organizational effectiveness, developing policies to improve operations, and designing development initiatives to optimize team performance and staff engagement across the school. The Director plays a key role supporting operational restructuring and the advancement of key projects, while also managing the daily functions of the Deans Office and ensuring stakeholder communication. Strategically, the role provides staff management, offers administrative leadership, and implements workforce strategies to foster a high-performance culture. Oversees the provision of essential functions including HR, AP, IT and events.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Broad knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management and / or personnel management under labor contract(s) and personnel policy.
  • Broad knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; and / or accounting and payroll.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence / persuade all levels of staff.
  • Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities. Proven ability to organize department work functions in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Broad knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Skills to work collaboratively with other locations.
  • Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution.
  • Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of UC and UCI governance, instructional and research programs, campus organizational structure, departments/schools, central administrative offices, their services, roles and responsibilities, and ability to work collaboratively with these personnel.
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience, experience in higher education or health sciences preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management, operations, or equivalent relevant experience preferred
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a team preferred
