Provides a supportive link between UCI customers both internal and external, facilitates communications by effectively navigating computer and phone systems, builds and maintains customer relationships while providing a positive, professional and empathetic understanding to all customers. Main duties include phone calls, computer data entry, and printing/delivering lab reports. Reviews lab requisitions and performs quality review and troubleshooting. Also performs specimen processing in Central processing area of the main lab if needed: main job includes computer data entry and transporting specimens in the different areas of the lab.

Essential Job Functions:

• Support Specimen processing by correctly accessioning samples, verifying the identity of specimens and evaluating acceptability. Accurately performs the pre-analytical specimen preparation and initial pre-processing. Accurately performs computer data entry functions to ensure orders are entered properly and are corrected as needed. 40%
• Receives and handles calls within first interaction and performs hand-off to appropriate problem resolution specialists or technical division as needed. Provides lab results to clients in a timely manner including STAT and Critical Results and ensures specimen issues are directed to the supervisor as needed for resolution. Documents summary of all calls and any required follow-up. Initiates incident reporting as needed. Monitors and manages the exception handling pending log. Prints and delivers/faxes lab reports in a timely manner 45%
• Manages supplies including inventory, and ordering, receiving, and stocking and delivers lab supplies as appropriate. Picks-up and delivers all laboratory samples/specimens to the departments for testing as appropriate. Responds to pneumatic tube system in a timely manner and appropriately maintains stock of carriers. 15%

Required Qualifications:

• One year of applicable clinical lab work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Demonstrated experience using a computer, including data entry and retrieval
• Ability to work weekends, and rotating shifts including evenings, nights and holidays
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in customer service
• Experience with lab/hospital computer systems and software
