University of California, Irvine is Hiring a Per Diem Dietitian - Culinary & Nutrition Services- Day Shift Near Orange, CA

Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Clinical Nutrition Manager, the Per Diem Dietitian is responsible for formulating, documenting and implementing nutrition care plans. Duties include conducting and documenting assessments, reassessments, consults, calorie counts, and Nitrogen balances. Assists in the development and revision of hospital Nutrition policies and procedures. participates in patient conferences and unit rounds. monitors for potential drug nutrient interactions and provides nutrition education and counseling for patients and families. Participates in process improvement and special projects, such as Nursing & Medical Student/Resident In-services, support group meetings, and patient education classes for the community. Will attend interdisciplinary hospital committee meetings as assigned. Oversees the daily activities diet office and patient services staff as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serves as an effective Clinical Dietitian by: assessing patients nutritional needs and developing plans in a timely manner to accurately reflect their needs; accurately calculating/writing recipes for all mixed tube-feeding & infant formulas; coordinating home care nutrititional issues with home health liaison or case manager; documenting nutritional calorie counts and Nitrogen Balance studies; collecting quality imrpovement and clinical data; identifying potential nutrient/drug interactions and intervening as appropriate; and developing effective clinical eduation programs. 35%
  • Consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical expertise and enhanced communication skills, serving as an effective role model and preceptor to staff. Demonstrates strong leadership skills in dealing with staff and members of the healthcare team and acts as an effective liaison to medical staff to ensure continuity and congruity of hospital nutrition services in accordance with the plan of care. Acts as a clinical resource to staff providing inservices, peer reviews and advising management of training needs and conducts effective hospital-wide and community-based training, in-services, or meetings. 30%
  • Accurately coordinates education needs for the discharged patient/family. Establishes comprehensive lesson plans, integrating various disciplines as appropriate. Evaluates patient education outcomes to ensure understanding of instruction. Accurately identifies the most appropriate teaching method for patients and families and accurately assesses patient/family learning needs and readiness to learn 35%

Required Qualifications:

  • Willingness and availability to work overtime, holidays and weekends as needed or requested
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must possess either a graduate degree or advanced certification in a Nutrition related field
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum two years experience as an R.D. in a healthcare/clinical environment
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated understanding of therapeutic and normal nutrition, with the ability to develop care plans for patients
  • Demonstrated understanding of MS Office programs, including Word, Excel and Access
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
