Incumbent provides expertise required for electroencephalograph testing (EEG), Video/EEG monitoring and patient observation, long term video EEG monitoring (LTM), evoked potential (EVP) testing, brainmap testing, Corticography (ECOG), and surgical monitoring. Incumbent also will review and clip continuance monitoring, provides telemetry testing and other specialized procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including nursing floors, intensive care units and other specialized locations.

Your Role on the Team

Essential Job Functions:

  • Effectively determines patient needs based on age-specific criteria. Effectively operates all equipment. Performs testing/procedures such as electroencephalograph testing (EEG), telemetry monitoring, evoked potential testing (EVP), brainmap testing, WADA, surgical for ECOG, Sensory Evoked Potential Responses (SSEP) and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR). Reviews planned procedures and orders for monitoring and determines appropriate course of monitoring. Monitors patients during testing/procedures ensuring accuracy and patient safety. Ability to do all other modalities included in adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. 65%
  • EEG:Prepares equipment and supplies for testing/procedures in an organized and timely manner. Appropriately assesses, controls, orders, and maintains supply inventory according to physician preferences and patient population. Performs appropriate disinfection procedures on patient treatment equipment. Keeps work area clean and uncluttered. 10%
  • EEG: Collaborates effectively with all members of the health care team. Coordinates in-patient transportation as needed to complete daily radiation treatments. Notifies physician of any concerns in regard to patient condition. Verifies testing or procedures against established guidelines. Reviews patient results with physicians or other care providers in a timely manner. Participates in education of EEG Technologists, students and Medical Center staff as necessary. 15%
  • EEG: Accurately and appropriately performs daily quality control on equipment ensuring all appropriate records are kept as required, interprets data regarding patient status in consideration of patient age, and performs computer data entry of patient setup and treatment information in a timely manner. Records procedures to ensure correct billing, reviews procedure charges at the end of each day to ensure accuracy. Responsible for documentation of patient treatment in EMR and log per department’s protocols. 10%

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must possess current R. EEG T. and / or R. EP T. from ABRET
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Current BLS certification required by time of hire
  • Ability to monitor and mentor students and EEG technologists
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:

  • R.PSG.T or NBRC certification as a Polysomnography
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
  • Experience with or willingness to learn interoperative nerve monitoring (IONM)
  • Experience with interoperative nerve monitoring (IONM)
  • Experience performing all phases of neurodiagnostic testing
