The incumbent provides subject matter expertise on complex psychosocial evaluation and treatment plans; oversees continuous quality improvement programs to enhance the delivery of clinical social work; develops and leads formal and informal teaching; supervises CSW graduate students and clinic staff. Incumbent is responsible for creating the Clinical Social Work (CSW) Intern Program for the organization. Incumbent will design, document and implement the program, including selection, onboarding and supervision/oversight of the interns.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervision: Acts as a coach and positive role model for staff by establishing and maintaining a safe work environment that fosters positive morale. Appropriately monitors and addresses performance issues, applying corrective or disciplinary action when needed. Effectively manages staff in compliance with applicable labor union agreement, and all established policies, procedures and legal guidelines. Ensures effective staffing levels, and handles recruitment and selection for unit. Provides leadership and timely feedback in addition to a personalized work plan. 30%
  • Provides in or out-patient psychosocial assessments, therapeutic interventions, and community resource support information and referrals for adult and pediatric patients and their families throughout the medical center. Develops and implements appropriate psychosocial interventions that enhance patient and family preparation for and adherence to medical, surgical, and pharmacological regimens. 10%
  • Fully define, develop and create CSW Intern Program; support launch of and recruitment of; orient , train, provide tactical and operational support; ensure project is delivered on defined timescales and targets; collaborates with leadership to implement and onboard, socialize the program; implement and assess success; develop strategy, plan activities, coordinate promotion of program. 25%
  • Conducts and documents assessment of patients within caseload for use in developing a master treatment plan. Develops age and disease appropriate care plans in timely manner as prescribed by Program policies and procedures utilizing all assessments and input from treatment team. Reviews and updates treatment plans for clients within caseload on a timely basis. Supports the participation of patients in planning for their care. Accurately coordinates education needs for the discharged patient/family. Teach families and hospital teams about diagnosis-specific community resources and insurances. Provides effective education, direction and guidance to clinical staff. Effectively collaborates as needed with the patient, family and healthcare team to facilitate appropriate patient transfers. 25%
  • Acts as an effective liaison to medical staff to ensure continuity and congruity of hospital services in accordance with the plan of care. Effectively coordinates multi-disciplinary referrals. Facilitates effective and efficient hospital response to physician orders and the acquisition of necessary services. Utilizes treatment planning meetings to review problems, progress and discharge plans for all clients within caseload. 10%

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership skills to help establish the departments mission, policies and procedures.
  • Skills to understand and implement standards and regulations from various regulatory bodies.
  • Skills to interpret and implement hospital, JCAHO, Health Department and Child Abuse Registry standards and regulations
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job, as well as a strategic and creative approach.
  • Knowledge of the application of diverse therapeutic approaches to treating psychosocial problems
  • Knowledge of critical thinking, problem solving and consensus building
  • Knowledge of and ability to work within a complex health care system
  • Highly experienced in handling crisis situations.
  • Graduation with a Masters Degree from an accredited School of Social Work or Social Welfare
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Demonstrated work experience with diverse cultures and low-income populations including homeless
  • Current Clinical Social Work License issued by the Board of Behavioral Sciences
  • Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple requests and priorities
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience creating/implementing intern programs
  • Previous experience working as a lead and/or supervisor
  • Knowledge of UCI policies and procedures
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
