Job Summary

The Division of Neuroimmunology and Glial Biology (NGB) within the Department of Neurology investigates a variety of mechanisms underlying nervous system dysfunction in multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases, and related disorders, with a focus on developing regenerative therapies.The Staff Research Associate III / Lab Manager will support the research studies of two small laboratories in the NGB Division. Under the supervision of the two Principal Investigators, Ari Green, MD, and Trent Watkins, PhD, the SRA III will be responsible for facilitating the research of the two laboratories through lab management and through contributions to laboratory benchwork and experimentation. Lab management responsibilities will include assessing and communicating laboratory resource needs, lab purchases, managing equipment maintenance and repairs, maintaining lab and chemical safety compliance, assisting with mouse colony maintenance, budgeting, onboarding new laboratory members, and aiding in the submission of protocols and amendments.Laboratory responsibilities will include collaborating with the PIs, specialists, and scientists in the planning, execution, and interpretation of experiments in the fields of neuroscience that include cell culture, mouse models, and data analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS with a degree in a related science and two or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position and demonstrating technical expertise in these areas; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 2 years of experience in laboratory management
  • 2 years of successful contributions to neuroscience-related laboratory research, as evidenced by authorship on peer-reviewed publications.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve, prioritize work, balance multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with personnel of varying levels and skill-sets; team player

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cell culture and analysis of sensory neurons.
  • Experience working with mouse models of disease and neural injury.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven attention to detail and conscientious follow-through in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Outstanding computer skills (MS Office) with previous experience in electronic laboratory notebooks, database resources for mouse colony management, and communication / sharing platforms (Slack, Notion, Google docs, Box, etc.).
  • Experience in building positive workplace culture and developing roadmaps for laboratory expansion.
