Job Summary
The Assistant will process laboratory glassware and other lab utensils, prepare bacterial liquid media and plates, maintain building glasswash and autoclave area and equipment located on 1
floor of the Smith Cardiovascular Research Building. Incumbent will also assist with inventory and stock supplies for central glasswash and autoclave recharge program, provide assistance and training to personnel utilizing the glasswash / autoclave central facility, and perform other duties as assigned.
Incumbent should be familiar with general laboratory skills such as gel preparation, formulation of solutions, sterilization, as well as pipetting and other liquid transfer devices.

Department Description
The Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) performs cutting edge research illuminating cardiovascular and pulmonary biology and disease and trains clinicians and scientists to become future leaders of these fields.
The CVRI provides a home for a wide spectrum of investigation ranging from the most basic science to disease-focused and patient-based research.
It also links faculty interested in cardiovascular biology and disease across UCSF programs, departments and campuses. The diversity of CVRI's faculty and its collaborative culture fosters a multidisciplinary approach to research problems and provides an important bridge between UCSF's outstanding clinical and basic science departments.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Preferred Qualifications
High school graduation or GED and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in biological sciences;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience ,
Previous experience with basic laboratory skills; working knowledge of EH&S bio-safety guidelines and regulations,
