University of California San Francisco is Hiring an Assistant Director, Multicultural Resource Center Near San Francisco, CA

The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) is stewarded by an Assistant Director responsible for providing leadership and implementing strategic planning across various operations of the Center. This includes overseeing programs, events, education, training, outreach, and committee work. The Assistant Director's role is to provide excellent customer service as a liaison for culturally focused student organizations and advocacy and support for minoritized and underserved community members from broad and intersecting identities such as BIPOC, LGBTQ, undocumented individuals, and others. They collaborate across departments, schools, and the medical center to lead, facilitate, and elevate social justice, anti-racist, restorative, trauma-informed initiatives as well as cultural heritage days and months. These areas require partnership, precision, and inclusive excellence to enable participants to navigate and thrive in the academic community. The Assistant Director must have the ability to advance center engagement and adapt and innovate in response to changing local, national, and global circumstances. The Assistant Director reports to the Executive Director of Resource Centers for Climate and Belonging.

Department Description

The Office of Diversity and Outreach (ODO) serves as the campus leader in building diversity in all aspects of the UC San Francisco mission through ongoing assessment, development of new programs and building consensus. We collaborate with the four professional schools, the Graduate Division, and the medical centers, to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across UCSF.
The Vice Chancellor's Office of Diversity and Outreach (VCDO) oversees various units, including the Center for Science Education and Outreach, the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response, and the direct administrative office of the Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Outreach as well as the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Climate and Belonging. The ODO Assistant Vice Chancellor of Climate and Belonging oversight includes the CARE, Disability, LGBTQ, and Multicultural Resource Centers, Undocumented Student Support Services, and Community Engagement and Dialogue.
The mission of the Office is to build a broadly diverse faculty, student, trainee, and staff community, to nurture a culture that is welcoming and supportive, and to engage diverse ideas for the provision of culturally competent education, discovery, and patient care. Our priority is to develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for diversity and outreach that supports UCSF’s mission of advancing health worldwide, and the recruitment and retention of talented employees and students who contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years of related experience or equivalent experience / training.
  • Academic advising experience and advanced counseling techniques.
  • Exhibited knowledge of student affairs / student life.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and belonging to foster positive and professional relationships with students, staff, faculty, and team members.
  • Exhibited ability to collaborate effectively with multiple organizational units and overcome complex institutional barriers.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of presentations, workshops, and large-scale events.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem-solving, and process improvement.
  • Abilities in project management, problem identification, and program outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing; excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including editing, proofreading and independent writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an environment which involves handling confidential, sensitive situations/matters with respect and good judgment.
  • Excellent customer service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social sciences or humanities (Counseling, Education, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology) / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge of UC policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Knowledge of public relations and marketing principles and practices.
