University of California San Francisco is Hiring a Director of Epilepsy Services Near San Francisco, CA

The Director of Epilepsy Services provides leadership and direction for the provision of all epilepsy related services for all inpatients and outpatients at UCSF. Epilepsy and Neurodiagnostic services include; Electroencephalography (EEG), Intracranial recordings (IC), Evoked Potentials (EP), Long Term Monitoring (LTM), Intensive Care Unit Continuous EEG monitoring (ICU / cEEG) and Epilepsy Monitoring (EMU). Ultimately accountable thru support of Neurodiagnostics Leadership team clinical activities that include obtaining physiologic data from the central and peripheral nervous system; analyzing and reporting the results in a manner consistent with the specific training and education required of the modality. Neurodiagnostic procedures are performed in all areas of the hospital, including acute and critical care units, surgery, emergency department and ambulatory care clinics.
The Director has responsibility and accountability for all financial, operational and clinical performance, in addition to responsibility for strategic program development and expansion and growth of clinical services. The Director is charged with developing and directing effective, high-quality clinical services and is accountable to the Executive Director of Adult Services, UCSF Health. Provides oversight and guidance for the technical and administrative operations of neurodiagnostic services, with multiple modalities. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies. Implements strategic changes to inter and intra department workflows and operational processes to improve efficiencies and support continued growth. Monitors administration of fiscal, material and human resources.

Department Description

Epilepsy Services support and coordinate the care of Neurology (Epilepsy) and Neurosurgery (Epilepsy Surgery) patients. Ensures an efficient and collaborative approach to the continuum of care for epilepsy and epilepsy surgical patients and their care. Epilepsy and Neurodiagnostic services include; Electroencephalography (EEG), Intracranial recordings (IC), Evoked Potentials (EP), Long Term Monitoring (LTM), Intensive Care Unit Continuous EEG monitoring (ICU / cEEG) and Epilepsy Monitoring (EMU). Activities include obtaining physiologic data from the central and peripheral nervous system; analyzing and reporting the results in a manner consistent with the specific training and education required of the modality.
EMU initiatives dependent on a multidiscinplinary approach including collaboration of clinical and research intiatives. Neurodiagnostic procedures are performed in all areas of the hospital, including acute and critical care units, surgery, emergency department and ambulatory care clinics.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Graduate from a 2-year Neurodiagnostic technology training program, accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 8 years clinical experience across the age and health care continuum with at least 5 years of experience in a tertiary or academic medical center
  • At least 5 years management experience of a team that provides care across the age and health care continuum
  • Clinical, management and leadership experience required to direct epilepsy services that provides care across the age and health care continuum in an academic medical center
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
  • Proven fiscal management skills with knowledge of the current economic environment of health care and its implications on the delivery of neurodiagnostic services across the health care delivery continuum
  • Advanced computer skills in word, excel, on-line communication and with an electronic medical record
  • Clinical practice knowledge of relevant neurodiagnostic function(s) and applied background. Knowledge of terms, concepts, and protocols
  • Knowledge of relevant external regulations
  • Ability to apply policy knowledge to suggest improvements to compliance risks
  • Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others
  • Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with peers, patients, multidisciplinary team members, senior management, and assigned staff
  • Ability to collaborate within and across departments to integrate daily patient care activities and resolve problems
  • Ability to organize departmental operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving neurodiagnostic processes, procedures, and systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes...
  • Solid understanding of internal neurodiagnostic information technology applications. Knowledge of available information technology software in the neurodiagnostic field
  • Certification on one or more modalities
  • Specialized ABRET certification in one or more modalities
