Job Summary

The UCSF Center for Tuberculosis (CTB) Program Manager will supervise intra- and extramural funded projects
within the CTB. Responsibilities will include overseeing all programmatic components of the Center for
Tuberculosis, and some or all of each programs operational and finance requirements. The incumbent will
oversee the implementation of CTB project activities with a thorough understanding of workplans, protocols,
operational procedures/needs, and deliverables.
The program manager will work with Center leadership to develop the Center's community engagement and
global partners strategic vision and will provide implementation oversight to ensure vision is executed. The
Program Manager will supervise and/or implement the Center's programs, including TB RAMP program for early-
stage investigators, UC TRAC Global Fellowship program for early-stage investigators in high-burden TB
countries, the CTB DEIA Initiative, and the UC TRAC TB Community Advisory Board. They will directly manage a
variety of intramural CTB funding opportunities including the UC TRAC Pilot Awards for Mentored Scientists inTB
Research, Global Fellowship, Accelerator Awards in TB Basic Science, and TB Research Boost Awards. The
incumbent will work with the Associate Director and faculty directors of the CTB to set strategic direction for the
Center for Tuberculosis.
The program manager will work with members of their team to track outcomes from the programs they
supervise, including systematically documenting scientific innovations, publications, pilot projects funded,
intramural and extramural grants received, applicants and investigators accepted and mentored, TB career
retention metrics, and the overall impact of the Center's programs.
The incumbent must have experience working with 1) investigators working in infectious disease scientific
discovery; 2) international partners in global health program implementation; 2) facilitation of mentorship
programs; and 4) management experience of international community advisory boards. The incumbent
preferably has experience in the realm of tuberculosis research and/or capacity building.
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Center for Tuberculosis Associate Director, will
supervise CTB program coordinator(s), and will work directly with CTB Principle Investigators and their staff.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $84,400 - $133,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF CENTER FOR TUBERCULOSIS (CTB)
The UCSF Center for Tuberculosis, established in 2019, hosts 45 affiliated and multidisciplinary faculty across the University and is the operational hub of the NIH-funded UCSF-UC Berkeley Tuberculosis Research Advancement Center (UC TRAC) and the UCSF award under the USAID-funded SMART4TB Consortium. Through the Center for Tuberculosis affiliation, faculty investigators enjoy a co-operative and creative academic environment with collegial, administrative, and logistical support, providing a singular and unified scientific home for the TB research enterprise at UCSF. The UCSF Center for Tuberculosis faculty, postdoctoral scholars, fellows and staff are dedicated to improving the care of TB patients worldwide through biomedical research, education in the life sciences and health professions, technical assistance and training, clinical consultation, advocacy, diplomacy and excellence in patient care.
The UCSF Center for Tuberculosis coordinates training, mentorship, pilot awards, and other investment activities for early-stage investigators and serves as a catalyst and community for investigators of all stages in TB research to incubate interdisciplinary collaborations and novel discoveries.
The Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) is a campus wide interdisciplinary program that reports to the Chancellor. IGHS is structured as an Organized Research Unit (ORU) and control point that oversees a portfolio of $330M in sponsored programs (including $80-90M per year in grants and cooperative agreements expenses), two graduate groups that confer Masters and PhD degrees, and an administrative unit that provides communication, financial management, event planning, staffing support, operations, and program development support to faculty members working in global health across the campus.
IGHS's mission is to advance health and reduce health disparities worldwide, with a focus on vulnerable populations. IGHS is continuing to expand its programmatic activities into new regions (Latin America and Asia) and new themes (e.g., transdisciplinary research in infectious disease, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases, pandemic preparedness, digital health, climate change, and migrant health). It also is working to develop new educational program offerings (degree and certificate) and partnerships with academic institutions in the US and in low- and middle-income (LMIC) countries. It also has engagements domestically with public health programs, including the California Department of Public Health.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3 years of directly relevant experience
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers
  • Solid fundraising experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in related area and/or equivalent experience training preferred
  • Terminal degree in a related area (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) and / or equivalent experience / training preferred
  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in Tuberculosis and/or global health programs/studies preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of website design, communications and/or content creation
