Incumbent is responsible for managing the daily delivery of patient care, as well as the quality of nursing practice and the standards of care in the Infusion Center. Ensures continuity and congruity of services through coordination of the overall patient care, supervision and direction of nurse staff, and the facilitation of responses to physician requests and services. Serves as a role model and clinical resource to colleagues, staff, and patients. Additionally, incumbent reviews data and devises effective control mechanisms to ensure the environment fosters safe patient care.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervision: Acts as a coach and positive role model for staff by establishing and maintaining a safe work environment that fosters positive morale. Appropriately monitors and addresses performance issues, applying corrective or disciplinary action when needed. Effectively manages staff in compliance with applicable labor union agreement, and all established policies, procedures and legal guidelines. Ensures effective staffing levels, and handles recruitment and selection for unit. 20%
  • CLIN RES_Provides daily oversight and coordination of the clinic services. Coordinates and communicates the overall surgery schedule throughout the shift and plans future daily schedules in advance. Facilitates effective response to physician orders and the acquisition of necessary services acting as liaison to medical staff to ensure continuity and congruity of services 20%
  • CLIN RES_Effectively utilizes knowledge of surgical and age appropriate patient needs to identify trends and development QI programs. Participates in the collection of quality improvement data and group research projects relating to clinical need in the community as assigned. Ensures activities are compliant with all legal and certification requirements, and hospital-wide standards of care 20%
  • CLIN RES_Demonstrates advanced level of clinical expertise, strong leadership and collaborative skills in dealing with staff and members of the healthcare team. Acts as a source of information and articulately responds to questions, providing resources, guidance, and education about diagnosis and course of treatment to clinical staff and patients. Seeks out education and new information to increase skill and knowledge 20%
  • CLIN RES_Collaborates in the implementation of nursing care standards. Coordinates functions for various hospital surveys for approval by regulatory agencies. Ensures that physicians are performing cases within established Medical Staff Guidelines and ensures a review of all case files related to bad patient outcomes. Reviews various reports (quality indicators) to determine the effectiveness of nursing services and devises effective control mechanisms to ensure that the environment fosters safe patient care 20%

Required Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory requirements
  • Strong customer service orientation as well as written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience working with cancer programs
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a nurse
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and motivate staff through prior lead or supervisory experience
  • Current California RN license
  • Complete understanding of acuity levels for the patient population
  • Chemotherapy administration experience
  • Chemotherapy Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
  • ANCC recognized RN certification uniquely applicable to this specific unit, (general certifications, such as WCC, will not be acceptable for meeting this requirement).

Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS (Required)
