Departmental Overview

The Goldman School of Public Policy (GSPP) has 27 Ladder Rank faculty, nine adjunct faculty, nine affiliated faculty, and 13 emeriti faculty, and more than 60 staff members supporting its mission.

The School is primarily a graduate school, with four degree programs at the graduate level : the Masters of Public Policy (MPP);

the Masters of Public Affairs (MPA); the Masters of Development Practice (MDP); and our PhD program in Public Policy.

It also enrolls more than 1500 undergraduates in elective classes, and has more than 600 students in its undergraduate minor.

The School has approximately 300 Master's degree candidates, 12 PhD students and occupies more than 40,000 assignable square feet, within which are five classrooms and more than 100 offices.

It has more than 3,000 alumni.

GSPP hires more than 60 graduate student instructors, readers, lecturers and graduate student researchers annually. Its constituency also includes parents, friends and a number of organizations representing state, federal and local government and policy organizations.

It is consistently ranked as one of the top graduate schools of public policy in the nation, currently ranked first among Policy Analysis and Social Policy graduate schools by US News and World Report, and ranked fourth nationally in the fields of Public Affairs and Environmental Policy & Management.

Risk-Resilience Research (RRR) is a fun, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of students, staff, and scholars at the University of California, Berkeley.

Our mission is to improve justice, safety, and well-being for people and communities at risk, through policy-relevant research.

The RRR lab is directed by Professor Jennifer Skeem, a psychologist affiliated with the Goldman School of Public Policy and School of Social Welfare.

Position Summary

We're looking for a positive person to play a central role in our new videogame-supported, school-based therapeutic program.

The program is designed to prevent aggression and promote positive development among early adolescents. Over the next three years, we will be evaluating the effectiveness of this program, and need a dedicated Youth Development Specialist to help us implement it at multiple Bay Area middle schools.

The primary responsibilities are to lead intervention sessions twice a week at 2-3 schools each semester. Training will be provided, and multiple assistants will be available to help implement the program.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a cutting-edge program that blends light-touch intervention with videogame technology to make a significant impact on young peoples' lives.

Responsibilities

• Lead Videogame Sessions : Supervise videogame practice sessions and organize bi- weekly tournaments to enhance students' skills and teamwork.
• Teach Self-Control Skills : Implement engaging, hands-on learning strategies to help students develop self-control skills.
• Monitor Progress : Regularly assess students and parents to track progress and improvements.
• Team Collaboration : Actively participate in team meetings to discuss progress, share insights, and plan activities.
• Support Research Goals : Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support and advance the research project.

Required Qualifications

• Experience with Young People : Ideally, you have training, experience, or a background working with early adolescents (ages 9-12), preferably in a school or after-school setting.
• Group Facilitation : You can facilitate groups in an ethical, non-judgmental, and non- discriminatory manner.
• Team Player : You work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
• Cultural Responsiveness : You can engage with a diverse population and respect cultural differences.
• Availability : You're available from 12pm to 5pm, with flexibility for occasional meetings outside these hours.
• Reliable transportation to various local / regional sites

Salary & Benefits

This is a part-time (10 hours per week during school term time), limited / temporary position for up to 36 months.

This position is not eligible for UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs.

It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.30 - $38.51
