Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Evaluation Project Coordinator in our Community Health department. This position will be primarily a work from home opportunity with the requirement to come onsite as needed. You may be based outside of the greater Chicagoland area.

The University of Chicago Medicine’s (UCM) Urban Health Initiative (UHI) is committed to meeting the health needs of Chicago’s South Side communities. It assesses community health needs, manages strategies (e.g., programs, partnerships) to respond to these needs, and measures impacts on the community. As part of UChicago Medicine’s Level 1 adult trauma care center, the Violence Recovery Program (VRP) is a hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP), working to build a Violence Recovery Model for survivors of intentional/community violence and their families. We are seeking to hire a coordinator to enhance these efforts by having direct linkages to community organizations focused on violence prevention and school programs dedicated to this mission. This role will primarily act as a presence and liaison at community/school engagements and will be tasked to conduct outreach at local schools and youth organizations in our target neighborhoods.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collaborates with community-based violence prevention and intervention (CVIs) organizations as a school and youth-based liaison within the assigned target neighborhoods.
  • Delivers trauma-informed care health promotion content to schools, staff, and students in targeted neighborhoods.
  • Attends community-based violence prevention events in assigned target neighborhoods to assist with planning and relevant presentations, being present at special events, and other outreach activities in youth-based settings and violence prevention programs
  • Supports youth-focused community relations events (Bi-annual High School Health Fairs, Teen events, Bud Billiken Parade etc)
  • Maintains a database of youth-based programs and services from University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences Division staff.
  • Disseminates UCM and BSD programs and employment opportunities to schools and youth with target neighborhoods.
  • Work closely with the Urban Health community relations team and the Violence Recovery Program (VRP) to ensure consistent collaboration across joint projects
  • Other related duties as assigned by leadership team

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in public health, public policy, research methods, evaluation, social science, or a related field
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience designing, monitoring, and evaluating programs or research studies, preferably in the health sector
  • Experience writing findings and recommendations in assessment or evaluation reports
  • Experience with quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and at least one statistical software (i.e., SAS, R, Stata, SPSS)
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to speak articulately in high-level forums and to answer difficult questions with confidence
  • Requires prior experience managing multiple large projects and working effectively in multidisciplinary groups
  • Must be self-motivated: given appropriate direction for goals, must be able to work autonomously in a sometimes ambiguous and changing environment
  • Maintains strong working relationships with the faculty and staff of the Medical Center, community partners, and the UHI staff. Must have a good sense of humor
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for and dedication to working with youth in an educational/mentorship role
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays when requested
  • Comfortable with workflow ambiguity and navigating a fast paced service environment
  • Comfortable working across teams toward same overall goal of service
  • Proactive attitude and able to work independently with minimal supervision at times
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to deliver complex concepts in a concise/effective manner
  • Culturally humble approach to serving socially vulnerable patients and families who have been affected by community violence
  • Ability to emotionally handle high stress situations while maintaining composure and navigating multiple work related tasks
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, punctuality and record of reliability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; comfortability with communications technology (cell phone, tablet, etc.)
