Job Summary:

The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has a 0.6 FTE faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO).

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for all areas of Pediatric General Surgery includingthe Trauma Acute Care Surgery (TACS) Service, Pediatric Specialty Service (PSS), and rotate through the outpatient surgery clinic at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO). Duties will include primarily inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders/progress notes, consults, discharge, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and minor procedures. Close collaboration with pediatric general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, residents/fellows, and hospital staff will be necessary. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel, and primary care providers is essential. The candidate will provide care to patients in the pediatric intensive care unit, acute care areas, and in the outpatient clinics.The work schedule may include up to 13hr shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

NP Minimum Qualification:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner
  • An acute care certification required
  • Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner)
  • Current ATLS or successful completion within three months of hire.
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications or successful completion within six months of hire.

PA Minimum Qualification:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant
  • Prescriptive Privileges required
  • Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant)
  • Current ATLS or successful completion within three months of hire.
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications or successful completion within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in general surgery, trauma, critical care, and pediatrics preferred.
  • Prefer candidate who is willing to work strictly overnight shifts

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$62,762 to $84,901

For the 0.6 FTE/24 hours per week a 25% shift differential added to all night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
