University of Colorado Boulder is Hiring a Mechanical Engineer II Near Boulder, CO

Summary Job Summary LASP is searching for a Mechanical Engineer to support the development of space flight instrumentation. This role will invent solutions to complex mechanical design challenges in a team environment with mentorship from senior engineers. Projects include the design, analysis, fabrication, integration, and testing of mechanical systems.

Who We AreLASP is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. LASP is one of the top space science research institutes in the country employing approximately 500 scientists, engineers, support personnel, and students. The University of Colorado receives more NASA funding than any public university in the country, due in large part to LASP programs. Professional engineers work closely with scientists and assembly technicians in designing and building space flight hardware while helping mentor students as entry-level engineers working on these programs. Responsibilities What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Specific job functions may include, but are not limited to:
  • Design of flight parts, test support hardware, and handling fixtures in SolidWorks using PDM Pro.
  • Create drawings using SolidWorks and applying GD&T to the drawing.
  • Interfacing with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Documenting designs, interfaces, and requirements.
  • Ordering parts for fabrication by interfacing with the LASP Production Department and/or outside vendors.
  • Perform engineering analyses using hand calculations and/or FEA (ANSYS Workbench or NASTRAN) to verify design solutions.
  • Prepare test procedures and build instructions in support of the integration and testing of hardware.

  • Fully remote working not allowed, hybrid schedule may be possible with approval from supervisor and project manager.
What We Can Offer
  • Salary range: $86,207.56 - $112,131.92. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 200% matching for the first 5% contributed with immediate vesting.
  • Relocation expenses up to the equivalent of one-months’ salary (taxable).

What We Require
  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Experience: 3-7 years in the Aerospace field.
  • CAD design experience with SolidWorks.
  • Experience creating mechanical drawings.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Resourcefulness and creativity.
  • Knowledgeable of spaceflight instruments, mechanisms, and spacecraft.
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for projects and work independently.

  • Designing and building opto-mechanical instruments.
  • Designing and building mechanisms.
