The College of Public Service at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers in Criminal Justice from which future appointments to temporary, non-tenure track positions will be made. Appointments are part-time (less than 50% time) and will be made semester-by-semester. This position will teach Criminal Justice classes. For example, courses would include Criminal Justice core courses and/or courses within the CJ option areas. High priority courses include Research Methods, Statistics for Criminal Justice, and Crime Prevention and Analysis. Classes may be on-campus, online, or hybrid.

This is a part-time lecturer position with appointments made on a semester-by-semester basis. The person in this position will teach undergraduate-level courses in Criminal Justice. The successful candidate will be qualified to prepare and teach Criminal Justice core courses and/or courses within the CJ option areas. Course offerings include day and evening classes in a variety of formats (e.g., in-seat, hybrid, remote synchronous, and online).

Work Location: Determined by course modality (i.e., on-site if teaching an in-person course; remote if teaching an online course; or a combination of the two if teaching a hybrid course)
This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
What We Offer:Salary Range: The pay rate is dependent on the number of courses taught for the College of Public Service (CPS):
  • 1st & 2nd course taught for SPA = $3,250/course
  • 3rd & 4th course taught for SPA = $3,450/course
  • 5th course and beyond taught for SPA = $3,750/course

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Has obtained at a minimum a master’s degree in criminal justice, Criminology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, or a Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous teaching experience which may include teaching at postsecondary levels and/or leading professional trainings.
  • Ability to teach in multiple formats (face-to-face, online, remote synchronous, hybrid).
  • At least 5 years of applied work experience in the criminal justice system.
Physical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to move. Tasks may involve looking at a computer screen continuously for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
