University of Colorado is Hiring a Human Resources Business Partner Near Aurora, CO

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical CampusDepartment: Department of SurgeryJob Title: Human Resources Business PartnerPosition #: 00737665 - Requisition #:33963Job Summary:This full-time, University Staff (non-classified) position will be responsible for supporting the human resources needs and functions of the Department of Surgery and its 8 divisions, including Cardiothoracic Surgery, GI Trauma and Endocrine Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Transplant Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Vascular, and Urology Surgery. Under the supervision of the People & Operations Manager, the primary purpose of this position is to work as an advisor and knowledge source to the specialist team, oversee the smooth operation of daily requests, transactions, and hires, as well as provide cross-team coverage. This position will work closely and collaboratively with key business partners in the school of medicine. This position is fully operational and works independently.
Key Responsibilities:
Examples of Work Performed at the Senior Professional Level:
  • Manage the Hiring Process from Recruitment to Onboarding: Create job postings, evaluate candidates, coordinate with the hiring team, ensure fair and unbiased searches, etc.
  • Handle credentialing of new faculty and prepare faculty hiring packets.
  • Manage the processing of volunteer clinical faculty, adjunct, adjoint, and postdoctoral appointments.
  • Oversee the posting of student positions and manage their hiring in the Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
  • Complete various HR tasks in HCM, including FTE changes, pay rate adjustments, and funding distribution updates.
  • Process faculty and staff terminations and manage vacation payouts.
  • Evaluate and process University Staff Reclassification requests.
  • Work with ISSS to handle international visas (J-1, H1B, O1, etc.).
  • Use Smartsheet to monitor position management, faculty hiring, and credentialing sheets.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance of faculty and staff files.
  • Conduct bi-weekly check-ins with various Division personnel.
  • Offer Human Resources guidance to different divisions.
Examples of Work Performed at the Principal Professional Level:
Work Leader:
  • Manage workload of HR Specialists to ensure a balance workload and coverage when needed
  • Provide guidance to HR Specialists on issues and questions about processes, policies and procedures related to HR transactions, hiring and credentialing of faculty and staff
  • Train HR Specialists on new HR skills and abilities, as well as process improvement and other developmental tools.
Surgery HR Core:
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the HR Specialist core.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Position Management, Hire and Credentialing transactions.
  • Provide oversight of Transaction Requests and assign work to the Specialists as needed
  • Troubleshoot issues and make recommendations on changes to processes
  • Create and analyze reports on transactions for forecasting and progress of team
  • Manage issues and feedback from Administrators and make appropriate changes or recommendations to People & Operations Manager.
  • Work closely with People & Operations Manager and Director of Operations to make improvements to processes and implement new solutions as needed
Family Medical Leave:
  • Serve as the primary Department of Surgery liaison with the Campus Family Medical Leave (FML) team. Ensure all processes are being followed and to troubleshoot any issues that arise.
  • Manage the transactional duties of employees participating in FML (entering time collection, interfacing with employee, etc.)
Work Location:This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO. This schedule is eligible to become hybrid, with 2 days a week working remotely once trained.

  • Three to five years (3-5) of experience working in Human Resources
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.Preferred Qualifications:
  • Related experience working in an academic medical center, understanding the unique HR challenges and requirements within this specialized environment.
  • Experience in hiring and credentialing faculty, ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Skilled in using complex Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and other data management systems, ensuring accurate and efficient transaction processing.
  • Track record of being proactive with a high level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information and situations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.
  • Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, employee relations, or organizational development and human resource policy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Thorough knowledge of current management and leadership methods and best practices.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive information.

Anticipated Pay Range:The starting salary range for this position has been established at:
Senior: $51,368 - $65,340
Principal: $59,073 - $75,141
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
