Other Conditions: 
To begin approximately August 1, 2024 or as soon, thereafter, as possible. Not to exceed July 31, 2025. Continuation dependent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Assist Ha Kupuna National Resource Center for Native Hawaiian Elders and the Barbara Cox Anthony (BCA) Endowment on Aging projects with the development and testing of educational materials related to aging and dementia, especially in Native Hawaiian communities.
  2. Education materials and dissemination platforms include, but are not limited to, manuscripts, reports, newsletters, factsheets, digital stories, press releases, brochures, social media, webinars, etc. 
  3. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned
 
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Be a classified degree-seeking student in social work, public health, gerontology, or related field;
  2.  Be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above
  3.  Maintain 6 credits per semester with the exception of those who have reached 800 (dissertation) or 700F (thesis)
  4. Interest in indigenous health
  5. Interest in gerontology
  6. Experience disseminating information through manuscripts, reports, newsletters, factsheets, digital stories, press releases, brochures, social media, webinars, etc.
  7. Knowledge of common Hawaiian words, phrases, and place names
  8. Strong written and oral communication skills
  9. Strong interpersonal skills
 
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, public health, gerontology, Hawaiian studies, or related field
  2. Doctoral standing
  3. Experience in indigenous health and/or with indigenous people
  4. Experience using qualitative methods (e.g., conducting and transcribing interviews)
  5. Coursework in Hawaiian studies and/or language
  6. Competency in cross-cultural community work
