 Position to begin mid-to-late August or as soon, thereafter, as possible.
 Position renewable upon availability of funds, program needs, and satisfactory performance.
 
 Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Investigator (Co-I), and senior staff, assist with the operation of the Hawaii Health Data Warehouse (HHDW), a partnership between the Hawaii Department of Health’s (DOH) Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion Division (CDPHPD) and the Office of Public Health Studies to collect, manage and disseminate public health data in a user-friendly format, and to assess and monitor Hawaii’s progress towards state and national targets.
  2. Provide assistance to the PI, Co-I, and other senior program staff on HHDW projects funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and/or the Hawaii DOH.
  3. Design and create new posts for websites and social media, and update existing website content.
  4. Support HHDW webinar and training activities.
  5. Track website usage and activity.
  6. Assist with the writing and formatting of the HHDW newsletter.
  7. Participate in website usability testing when applicable.
  8. Conduct literature reviews and create summaries for health indicators.
  9. Assist in developing presentation and training materials.
  10. Review and update spreadsheets with HHDW indicators and documentation.
  11. Support abstract and report writing.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
 Minimum Qualifications
  1. Classified degree-seeking student in a Masters or PhD program in Social Work, Public Health, Education, or related field under UH Graduate Division.
  2. Be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  3. Maintain 6 credits per semester with the exception of those who have reached 800 (dissertation) or 700F (thesis).
  4. Experience with data presentation and data visualization.
  5. Experience using design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Piktochart, or related software to create social media posts, website graphics, infographics, or reports. 
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  7. Detail oriented and organized.
  8. Must be responsible, dependable, and efficient.
 Desirable Qualifications
  1. Classified University of Hawaii Public Health student.
  2. A doctoral student at the University of Hawaii.
  3. Experience with creating professional social media posts and newsletters (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, MailChimp, Tweetdeck and/or similar social media content management).
  4. Experience creating and/or editing videos. Filming setup, audio recording, exporting and compression file types for streaming/web consumption. Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Movavi, iMovie, or similar experience. 
  5. Knowledge of public health, epidemiology, or statistics as evidenced by coursework and/or experience 
  6. Experience in working with vital statistics and/or survey data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), Youth Tobacco Survey (YTS), the Pregnancy Risk Assessment and Monitoring Survey (PRAMS) or other similar surveys.
  7. Familiar with Healthy People 2030.
