Description

Instructional Designer

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Instructional Designer to join our team at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) and colleagues to design, develop, and implement student-centered experiences and digital solutions. Key responsibilities include applying instructional design models, learning theories, online design standards, UX/UI principles, learning technologies, and industry best practices to create high-quality educational content that enhances student learning outcomes. The role also involves managing academic technology systems, providing support and training to faculty and staff, and handling multiple projects with strong organizational and project management skills. The ideal candidate will actively pursue professional development opportunities to stay updated with industry trends and share this knowledge to enhance the expertise of the design team and university stakeholders. This role will also be expected to reflect, support, and encourage UHSP’s mission, vision, and aspiration.

You will get to:

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and colleagues to design, develop, and implement student-centered, engaging learning experiences and digital solutions.
  • Ensure all courses and learning materials meet quality assurance standards.
  • Assist in the daily operations, management, and support of academic technology systems, such as the learning management system, proctoring system, lecture capture and video streaming, and audience response and polling tools.
  • Build collaborative and professional working relationships with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide support, consultation, and training in the areas of instructional design models, learning theories, online design standards, UX/UI, learning technologies, industry best practices, and digital solutions.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Prioritize tasks effectively to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
  • Actively seek opportunities for personal, professional development to improve instructional design knowledge and skills and stay updated with industry trends and standards.
  • Share this knowledge internally to continually enhance the expertise of the design team and university stakeholders.

Qualifications


To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education Technology, Interactive Media Design, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or Education is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in instructional design or related role.

Professional Skills

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of instructional design theories and methodologies, ensuring the development of effective and engaging learning experiences.
  • Demonstrate competence in using various academic technologies and e-learning tools to enhance instructional materials and learning outcomes, such as D2L Brightspace, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365, TechSmith Camtasia, Panopto, and Poll Everywhere.
  • Display strong organizational and project management abilities, prioritizing tasks effectively to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Utilize analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of instructional materials coupled with organizational abilities and evaluation techniques to make data-driven improvements.
  • Apply creative and innovative approaches to designing engaging and interactive learning materials.
  • Focus on creating learning experiences that prioritize and enhance student engagement and achievement, accommodating diverse learning styles.
  • Take initiative to identify and address potential issues, implementing solutions to maintain momentum and quality.
  • Ensure accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of instructional design and project execution.
  • Commit to continuous professional development and staying updated with the latest trends and advancements in instructional design and educational technology.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adjust to changing educational needs and technology advancements, maintaining effectiveness in various teaching and learning scenarios.
