Click for a complete list of Employee BenefitsUIC is seeking a Clinic Nurse (Lactation Counselor) to join our College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Academic Internal Medicine. This role is responsible for providing consultation and direct patient lactation care to patients, family members and nursing as well as post-discharge education. The Lactation Counselor's strive to improve patient outcomes and increase patient experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provides lactation support and assessment to the antepartum, laboring and postpartum woman which includes but is not limited to education, latch assistance, assessment of milk transfer and pumping assistance.
  • Provides lactation support and assessment patients and their parents
  • Supports the lactation consultant with planning and implementing breastfeeding promotion activities and staff education
  • Leads breastfeeding support groups
  • Monitors and responds to patient calls and emails as appropriate
  • Assists in maintenance and ordering of lactation supplies and equipment
  • Is a member of the prenatal breastfeeding class teaching team
  • Effectively communicates lactation assessment, interventions and plans to others through written and oral means.
  • Responds appropriately to requests for assistance from all inpatient and outpatient areas
  • Assists with administrative responsibilities of lactation services, as appropriate
  • Assists in the management and storage of human milk throughout the house
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • Current Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.
  • Current certification as one of the following: Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Certified Breastfeeding Counselor (CBC), or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
