Description:

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing leadership, administration direction and managerial oversight for the research mission of the College of Medicine.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate in strategic planning processes, identifying funding priorities and areas for capacity building and providing actionable research metrics to drive improvement.
  • Work closely with the Dean, senior leadership, unit heads, and faculty to foster relationships with key stakeholders and community members to encourage external funding support for the College.
  • Support the Dean and senior leadership in developing interdisciplinary collaborations among departments within the College, across colleges of the University, and across universities.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Finance and Planning, advise senior leadership on research financial projections, financial objectives, and policies in support of the research mission of the College.
  • Participate in College research facility and space planning activities including long-range to support scientific activities.
  • Implement and manage intramural seed funding initiatives.
  • Establish college-wide initiatives to improve research administration processes.
  • Establish college-wide best practices in the management and oversight of funded projects and ensure their implementation and compliance to all applicable state, federal and University guidelines.
  • In collaboration with the Director of the Research Shared Service Center, troubleshoot research management and compliance questions and conflicts in the shared service center.
  • Host research-related College events, colloquia, and symposia such as the annual College of Medicine Research Forum.
  • Represent the College on research-related matters within the university community and serve on applicable committees.
  • Plans, assigns and reviews work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hires, trains, develops and manages staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Economics or a related field required. Certified Research Administrator (CRA) preferred.
  • Ten years of experience in research administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of sponsored program management, accounting, and reporting in an academic setting.
  • Ability to prioritize complex tasks in a deadline driven environment.
  • Strong financial, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong critical thinking skills coupled with independent judgment, discretion, and advanced oral and written communication skills.
