University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a faculty member at the rank of Research Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) level in the research area of gene therapy. The candidate will be responsible for scientific and technical leadership for a complete program of investigation. The candidate will work alongside skilled researchers with expertise in the research area including collaborating with other research faculty members in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics.

The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical staff of UI Stead Family Childrens Hospital, Iowas only nationally ranked childrens hospital and home to the states only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at UI Stead Family Childrens Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians. For its 2023-24 edition of Best Childrens Hospitals, U.S. News & World Report ranked UI Stead Family Children's Hospital in six pediatric specialties: neonatology, diabetes and endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology.

Education Requirement:Ph.D Degree and appropriate post-doctorial fellowship is required
Required Qualifications:Evidence of sustained scholarly productivity and funding in the field of gene therapy
Experience in molecular biology, cell culture, virology and animal models (including pigs and mice)
Expertise in viral vector design and production (adenovirus, AAV, lentivirus, DNA transposon), development, and cellular targeting
Expertise in directing gene transfer to respiratory epithelia and methods of reporter gene detection, including, bioluminescence, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization
Expertise in vector aerosolization delivery techniques
Expertise in culturing and maintenance of organoid models of alveolar type 2 cells
Desirable Qualifications:Demonstrated extensive experience with research focused on mucosal immune responses following pulmonary infection
Expertise in virus/cell interactions and the host factors involved in both genetic lung diseases (such as cystic fibrosis) and viral induced lung disease (such as measles and respiratory syncytial virus)
Experience in preparing grant applications for extramural funding
Extensive scholarly research experience
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment
