Job SummaryReporting to the University’s Sustainability Officer, this position actively collaborates with the Campus stakeholders, and community partners in the development and coordination of new and existing programs and initiatives supporting the UK Sustainability Strategic Plan; researches and benchmarks other sustainability initiatives across higher education; ensures alignment with Key Sustainability Indicators, including, but not limited to, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Educations’ STARS platform (Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating Systems); identifies and prioritizes new sustainability-related programs for development; engages campus-wide with students and interns to develop, promote, and implement various sustainability projects and/or programs; develops an annual budget for the Sustainability Student Internship Program and assists with securing funding; tracks projects and sustainability funding to ensure funds are spent in a timely manner and appropriate to the goals of the program; ensures all funding requests are compliant with University Business Procedures and assists with the distribution of funding; serves as a staff advisor and mentor to the students in the Student Sustainability Council ( SSC ) and supports the Sustainability Challenge Grant Program; coordinates with interns and mentors assigned to other areas and recruits and retains faculty and staff mentors; and collaborates directly with the undergraduate leadership team for the SSC to coordinate meetings, outreach activities, etc.
In addition, the Sustainability Program Coordinator directly supervises and mentors students assigned to the Student Internship Program, and the Office of Sustainability, including overseeing the selection process for new interns, coordinating the onboarding process, and leading the professional development curriculum for the internship cohort; plans and schedules work assigned to students and interns on various projects, monitors work-in-process and upon completion, develops training plans, encourages the mastery of tasks, promotes teamwork, and maintains a positive work environment; strives for continuous improvement in all student activities and work performance; evaluates and reviews the overall work and development performance of students and interns; and ensures Facilities Management standards and requirements are met and/or exceeded in accordance with established procedures and processes and holds team members accountable.
