Position Title: Professor and Department Head, Civil Engineering

ResponsibilitiesApplications and nominations are invited for the position of Professor and Department Head of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The Department is looking for a leader with a vision to lead the department through continued growth in student enrollment, educational curriculum, engineering outreach, research expenditures, and national prominence.
ResponsibilitiesAs the administrative leader of the department, the selected candidate will be entrusted with managing all business and educational aspects, shaping the future direction of the department, and fostering its growth in terms of student populations and research and development fund generation. Collaboration with all departmental stakeholders will be essential to advance our department to new heights of national prominence. The role also entails maintaining a high level of professional activity, befitting a leader in engineering higher education, and working diligently to secure donations and other avenues for departmental advancement. Additionally, the Department Head will play a pivotal role in leading faculty towards increased scholarly activities, overseeing the recruitment of new faculty and staff, and spearheading efforts related to accreditation. Department And CollegeThe Department of Civil Engineering is one of six departments in the College of Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The department has a very strong ABET accredited undergraduate program and a growing graduate program. The department is experiencing significant increases in research expenditures and increased recognition related to the results of these activities. In 2022, research expenditures for the department were about $3M. The current primary focus research areas are transportation, water resource and environmental issues, infrastructure, and the built environment.
The College of Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has about 1600 students, as of fall 2023, and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in all engineering departments.

Qualifications
  • B.S. in Engineering with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or some closely aligned field.
  • Recognized leader in the field of civil engineering or some closely aligned field.
  • Preferably a licensed professional engineer or willing to pursue licensure in Louisiana.
  • Proven track record in university education.
  • Well publicized in engineering journals.
  • Track record of R&D activities.
  • Experience with ABET and other accrediting activities.
  • Possesses strong leadership skills.
  • Has experience leading a unit toward new heights.
  • Has a vision for advancing the national reputation of the department.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with managing engineered systems.
  • Experience with community engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal/human relations skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills necessary to manage an engineering department.
