University of Maine System is Hiring a Youth development professional Near Waldo, ME

Statement of the Job

The 4-H Youth Development Professional with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension will provide educational leadership for 4-H Youth Development in Waldo County and collaborate with the leadership staff at the UMaine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Tanglewood.

4-H is a non-formal, experiential education program for youth, and adults working with those youth, to develop life skills necessary to be self-directing, productive and contributing members of society.

Volunteer management will be a priority for this position, working with 4-H volunteers and the 4-H Leaders Association to foster an open, educational environment to promote the learning and growth of 4-H youth.

In partnership with other Extension staff in the region, this position will develop and provide educational programs and resources that address the needs of youth in Waldo County, supporting a multidisciplinary approach to youth development.

A priority will be to strengthen the 4-H programs in Waldo County through school and community engagement, and to provide integrated programming for Waldo County youth through partnerships with 4-H staff at Tanglewood 4-H Camp and Learning Center.

The 4-H Youth Development Professional is expected to work out of the UMaine Extension Waldo County office in Waldo, Maine, in addition to on-going collaboration with the University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Tanglewood as a secondary site.

Typical hiring range for this position is $42, to $45, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications : Required :

Required :

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Experience working with youth and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated skills in creative design, implementation and the delivery of community-based educational programs with an emphasis on youth development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using oral, written and electronic methods.
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as Google Drive and document management software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in an autonomous work environment as well work effectively as part of a team, and able to achieve and document measurable results.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated management, organizational, and facilitation skills, including the ability to handle conflict.
  • Demonstrated skills at collaborating with other agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to travel both in and out-of-state, usually requiring a valid driver's license.

Preferred :

  • Bachelors Degree in Education, Youth or Human Development, Environmental or STEM or related field.
  • Knowledge of Cooperative Extension and its 4-H Youth Development programs.
  • Volunteer management and development experience.
  • Experience with science / STEM education for youth.
  • Knowledge of and / or experience with animal science / livestock.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing, implementing and managing program funds.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Community education / teaching experience.
  • Successful supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences and supporting equal opportunity, affirmative action, and civil rights goals.
