Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

Job Description

Reporting to the Pharmacy Director this position will provide support to the Computer Support Pharmacist in updating and maintaining multiple pharmacy system databases; pharmacy system hardware maintenance, resolution of departmental charge issues and responding to audits from hospital patient accounts and auditors within the pharmacy information system.

Principal Duties:

  1. Assists the Computer Support Pharmacist in coordinating, selection, testing and implementation of new pharmacy automation technology.
  2. Participates in training and orientation for all Pharmacy Automation Technology
  3. Responsible for pricing updates in the pharmacy information system to correspond with new contract information as it becomes available
  4. Communicates with telecommunications for departmental system requirements
  5. Assumes responsibility for responding to patient accounts regarding patient billing issues
  6. Serves as a resource for informational inquiries regarding all technical aspects of the pharmacy information system
  7. Responsible for user management functions
  8. Fully utilizes capabilities of the pharmacy automation systems and reporting tools
  9. Coordinates data collection on system performance issues
  10. Develops custom reports and modifications to systems as needed
  11. Ensures all clinical alert systems are functioning and used to their full ability
  12. Routinely updates the pharmacy drug database by adding, deleting and revising charges
  13. Performs duties and requirements of a Pharmacy Technician II when needed
  14. Monitoring and optimization of automated dispensing cabinet inventory
  15. Filing and maintaining records of automated dispensing cabinets
  16. Troubleshoot and triage pharmacy automation technology issues
Qualifications

Education/Knowledge 

Attained Level: High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) is required. Certificate of Proficiency in Microcomputing.

Preferred: Associate’s/bachelor’s degree in computer science field

Completed Course Work/Program: Applicable Experience

Experience (years): Required: 2-3 years’ experience with mainframe and personal computer systems

Preferred: Experience with clinical and operations data bases used for dispensing medications e.g. pharmacy manager, Pyxis ES, ATP/PARATA, codonics; providing drug information and tracking cost containment. (i.e. Micromedix, ADR, Clinitrends, Narcotics, Clintec)

Other: Advanced user proficiency in PC-based and pharmacy information systems applications
