SummaryThe Weber Laboratory at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is seeking a Research Laboratory Specialist Associate. Research in the Weber Lab focuses on the evolution and ecology of arthropod plant interactions, especially mutualism. We use phylogenetic comparative methods, field and greenhouse experiments, and museum collections in this work.

Responsibilities*
Design, execute and analyze experiments related to the lab's research interests, focusing on plant-mite interactions, which will include conduct field, museum, and greenhouse research quantifying investment in plant mite mutualism across climatic gradients. Documenting the taxonomic and geographic distribution of plant traits facilitating mutualism, called mite domatia from herbarium and living plant specimens. Collecting and analyzing data on the presence and absence of plant- mite and plant-ant interactions and maintain online databases of plant traits mediating plant- arthropod mutualism. This includes taking primary responsibility for some experiments and parts of larger projects.
Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Plant Protection, Plant Biology, Agriculture, Entomology or a related field. 1-3 years of related experience

- Design and perform experiments with mite domatia
- Update and maintain domatia presence/absence databases
- Order supplies and maintain the budget line items; assist the PI with budget projections and planning
- Comply with lab safety protocols
- Supervise and train undergraduate students for work with mites
- Perform administrative work such as maintaining calendars and our website
- Participate in the preparation of research proposals and manuscripts for publication, including preparing, analyzing, and graphing data for reports
- Assist PI with preparing annual grant project reports
