Job DescriptionThe University of Missouri is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director of HR to lead Human Resources functions for the Division of Student Affairs. This role encompasses overseeing performance management, talent acquisition, employee engagement initiatives, payroll, and employee development programs. Dually reporting to the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Human Resources, this role will play a crucial part in enhancing the student experience through impactful HR service delivery.
Key ResponsibilitiesCareer Development & Performance ManagementAct as the division's employee relations expert, providing insights and guidance on policies, regulations, and resources. Advise on sensitive issues such as employee performance, policy interpretation, workplace conflict, and separations.
  • In conjunction with university systems and best practice, design and implement accountability tools for a performance management process Act as the division's employee relations expert, providing insights and guidance on policies, regulations, and resources. Advise on sensitive issues such as employee performance, policy interpretation, workplace conflict, and separations.
  • In conjunction with university systems and best practice, design and implement accountability tools for a performance management process that raises expectations, leader/manager capabilities, and embeds a culture of talent development that strongly links talent management and succession planning processes.
  • Collaborate with the UM System's Learning and Organizational Development office to deliver training sessions for leaders, managers, and front-line staff.
Talent Acquisition and Retention
  • Cultivate strong relationships with departments to understand their unique needs, assist in managing staffing requirements, and offer innovative solutions and tools.
  • Develop and execute effective staff engagement and retention strategies, ensuring a motivated and committed workforce.
  • Partner with the Recruitment Center of Expertise to manage high-priority recruitment and selection activities.
  • Analyze workforce trends through pulse surveys, exit surveys, turnover data, and performance metrics, providing proactive solutions to address emerging priorities.
Learning, Organizational Development, and Engagement
  • Significantly expand internal talent development initiatives to meet the evolving needs of the division’s dynamic workforce, with a focus on new professionals and first-time managers.
  • Offer dedicated support, coaching, and training to leaders across the organization to enhance their effectiveness.
  • Lead strategic organizational assessments, engagement and culture surveys, and drive action-oriented engagement interventions.
Streamline HR Processes and Enhance Team Effectiveness
  • Continuously seek and analyze opportunities for process improvement within a high-volume hiring environment for students and staff. Identify ways to enhance team effectiveness while delivering exceptional service to department clients. Ensure comprehensive documentation of processes for training and cross-training purposes.
HR Leadership and Strategic Planning
  • Stay abreast of trends in higher education and student affairs, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of employee policies and employment laws/regulations.
  • Support leaders in strategic planning, organizational design, employee development, and the implementation of new structures to meet the changing needs of Mizzou students.
  • Lead change management initiatives that foster innovation, enhance employee relations, drive operational excellence, and strengthen organizational competitiveness. Provide strategic guidance and collaborate effectively with stakeholders to implement change.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Provide leadership, supervision, guidance, and coaching to direct and indirect reports, including the Sr. HR Consultant and Business Support Specialists. The team consists of 1 Associate Director, 1 Senior HR Consultant, 2 Senior Business Support Specialists and 1 Business Support Specialist.
  • Ensure continuous training and professional development opportunities to strengthen skills and achieve the division's goals.
  • Review work for accuracy, provide constructive feedback, and conduct performance evaluations. Recommend salary adjustments and assist with hiring and terminations to build a high-performing team.
Shift
Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
This position may include other hours based on division and university needs. The position is eligible for for a hybrid work schedule with 1-2 remote work days per week.
Minimum QualificationsA bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience working in a higher education HR environment.
SHRM or HRCI certification
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $80,000 - $105,000 annually
Grade: GGS 12
