The department of psychology is one of the largest departments at the University, with a large and diverse faculty and student body. Currently, there are approximately 450 undergraduate majors and 200 master's students. The psychology major consists of concentrations in forensic, clinical, general, and community and society. The graduate programs are in community psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, and clinical mental health counseling. The department also houses the sociology program that has one of the largest minors at the University.

You will:

  • Have expertise in Counselor Education & Supervision and teach masters-level counseling courses (e.g., multicultural and diversity issues in counseling, assessment, family therapy, trauma and crisis intervention, practicum, and internship) and undergraduate classes.

  • Have earned a doctorate in Counselor Education & Supervision is required (ABD applicants may be considered; however, completion of degree must occur no later than the end of the first academic year of appointment); degrees from CACREP accredited programs are preferred. The successful applicant will be licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Connecticut (or equivalent licensure issued by another state).

You need:

  • To be a dynamic instructor and able to teach master's and undergraduate level courses using online, hybrid, and face-to-face modalities. Experience in advising, mentoring, and providing clinical supervision to graduate counseling students is expected.

  • The successful candidate will also be expected to establish/continue a strong and independent program of research. Research specialization is open, however, special consideration will be given to persons trained in rehabilitation counseling or forensic counseling, but this is not required. Other duties include participation in faculty-mentored research and assisting the department in program development, student evaluation, and accreditation activities. A commitment to serving culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse communities is expected.

  • Qualified candidates should submit 1) cover letter outlining prior relevant experience 2) current CV 3) a diversity and inclusion statement 4) concise statement of teaching philosophy 5) statement on research philosophy (evidence of teaching experience including course syllabi and student feedback, if available), evidence of scholarship (e.g., selected reprints) 6) three (3) letters of recommendation, and if ABD, please include a letter from your thesis advisor with your expected completion date.
