Position Summary

The University of New Mexico’s Project ECHO currently has a unique opportunity for an IT Project Mgr 2 to join the Project ECHO IT team. We are looking for a talented individual with strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of project management methodologies and IT systems.

Your responsibilities as the IT Project Mgr 2 will include:

  • Structuring implementation and supporting and managing support tickets, while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Developing detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation. Defining project scope, goals, and deliverables. Coordinating and managing project tasks and deliverables. Ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and business requirements.
  • Monitoring and reporting on project progress, identifying and resolving issues as they occur.
  • Conducting project reviews and post-implementation evaluations.
  • Documenting lessons learned and best practices for future projects. Implementing best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies. Monitoring risk factors throughout the project life cycle and implementing contingency plans as necessary.
  • Managing project changes and ensuring they are properly documented and approved. Assessing the impact of changes on project scope, schedule, and budget and implementing changes in a controlled and organized manner.
  • Using a strong IT familiarity to understand project complexity and analyze and make recommendations for projects.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders.
  • Communicating project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Using industry standard tools to provide reports and metrics for IT projects as assigned.
  • Maintaining comprehensive project documentation, including plans, reports, and logs.
  • Preparing regular project status reports for stakeholders and senior management.
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest tools and maintaining proficiency in project management software. (e.g., MS Project, JIRA, Trello, IT Ticketing systems)
  • Providing training and using continuing education to stay abreast of all new methodologies.
  • Re-establishing the Tools Advisory Board, tool requests, renewals, and tools management cleanup.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading and managing projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project goals.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Miro, JIRA, Trello, Confluence, Smartsheet’s, IT Ticketing systems).
  • IT familiarity with understanding complexity analysis and making recommendations for projects
  • Working towards or have completed a project management degree or certification
  • Excellent customer service
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Well-organized and timely
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated capability to make informed decisions autonomously.
