Student Life & Leadership Purpose
Student Life and Leadership is the center for student involvement and leadership at UNC . The office houses Student Organizations, Leadership Development, Student Activities, Carolina Union Activities Board, Assessment and Development, and Student Government. Student Life & Leadership focuses on the development of programs that involve direct interaction and impact on the quality of educational experiences inside and outside of the classroom.
Position SummaryThe primary focus of this position is to serve as administrative support for Student Life and Leadership by supervising the student staff who are the initial point of contact for the student experience and guests to the Student Life and Student Government offices responding and referring individuals, as appropriate. The position also provides direct administrative and budget support to the Director of Student Life & Leadership, as well as, coordinates the general office calendar and provides administrative support for core programs and services for the office and the Student Life & Leadership team. The position works collaboratively as a member of a support staff and reports directly to the Director of Student Life & Leadership.
Minimum Education And Experience RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously with appropriate sensitivity;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to effectively receive and share accurate, appropriate information with students, faculty, staff, parents / families, community partners and office colleagues;
  • Experience with basic budgeting and proficient with Excel;
  • Exceptional listening skills and the ability to respond to challenging situations in a calm and deliberate manner;
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information in a discrete and appropriate manner; and
  • Demonstrated experience working as a part of a team and maintaining positive professional relationships.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
  • Prior experience in a higher education setting;
  • Experience working with students, faculty, staff, parents / families, and community partners to address a wide array of situations and / or concerns; and
  • Experience with ConnectCarolina, Microsoft Office suite applications, and/or other data management platform(s).
Required Licenses/CertificationsSpecial Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Ability to move 25 pounds, with or without accommodation, on an infrequent basis.
Campus Security Authority ResponsibilitiesThis position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
