Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Founded in 1950, our Department of Maternal and Child Health is one of the world’s leading academic departments for research, teaching and practice. We are dedicated to improving the health of women, children and families – domestically and globally. Our teaching program provides students with broad exposure to maternal and child health population needs and priorities, as well as with the skills to become leaders of tomorrow. Currently the department has 31 faculty members, 20 of whom have primary appointments in Maternal and Child Health (MCH). Complementing these faculty are four emeritus members, and more than 65 adjunct faculty, many of whom hold leadership positions in MCH research and practice settings. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our department, faculty and staff research interests and activities span the full array of issues and areas of focus for the maternal and child health population. Our initiatives are designed to create new knowledge and directly improve the health of this population.
Position Summary
The main responsibility of this Social/Clinical Research Assistant position is to support current research led by Dr. Kristin Z. Black. The Social/Clinical Research Assistant will assist Dr. Black with managing key elements related to preparing for, collecting, analyzing, and disseminating qualitative/quantitative research data for multiple research projects.
This will include:
  • Developing IRB applications
  • Creating management systems to track data collection
  • Managing recruitment process, including development of recruitment materials
  • Assisting with facilitation of interviews/focus groups
  • Planning for meetings with community advisory boards
  • Preparing drafts of slide decks, grant proposals, manuscripts, infographics, reports and other dissemination materials
  • Providing technical assistance with publication and journal submissions
  • Managing administrative tasks associated with research projects
  • Overseeing training of new staff members
  • Attending all research team meetings
  • Other duties are assigned by supervisor to meet project needs
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Required education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
The candidate in this position must be able to:
(1) work independently;
(2) apply a high level of attention to details;
(3) adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines;
(4) demonstrate a strong ability to keep accurate and detailed records of process;
(5) communicate effectively (in written and verbal modes) with research team and study participants;
(6) work with efficiency and flexibility to meet all project deadlines;
(7) apply foundational knowledge in qualitative research and descriptive quantitative statistics.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred education: Master of Public Health or Master’s degree in relevant discipline (e.g., social work, sociology). All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Experience using Canva to create flyers, presentation slides, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
