Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center. The Center's mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach.
The UNC Tissue Procurement Facility (TPF) provides a centralized facility for the procurement, processing, storage, analysis and distribution of malignant and non-malignant specimens for use by UNC Lineberger Cancer Center Members and sponsored non-members in basic, population, translational and clinical research studies. The mission of TPF is to support basic cancer research and clinical trials by providing high quality and trustworthy specimens by facilitating novel specimen collection, biobanking, and other biorepository services
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the daily workflow and prioritization of a complex human specimen wet lab and serve as primary subject matter expert for technical development. This position will also process liquid human tissues, and occasionally solid human tissues. This position will be responsible for setting daily/weekly/monthly workflows, coordination regular maintenance and cleaning intervals, coordinating with the Translational Research Manager or Director for vendor approval. The Senior Research Specialist will work in coordination with the Translational Research Manager for training and onboarding of new personnel.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Cellular and molecular biology experience. Attention to detail, critical thinking, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Bachelors level degree (STEM preferred) or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree or equivalent practical experience pertaining to cellular isolation, nucleic acid extraction, or laboratory management.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Appropriate visual acuity and fine motor dexterity to perform small volume (microliter scale) manipulation without automation.
