Primary Purpose of Position
The social media coordinator reports directly to the Director of Marketing for Business Services. This position is responsible for applying thorough knowledge and research of student audiences and marketing techniques to execute the Business Services social media strategy for multiple platforms (e.g., Facebook Pages, Youtube, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Discord, LinkedIn), and create and manage the Business Services content calendar. The social media coordinator is responsible for monitoring and responding to customer inquiries on social media within the recommended 24-hour timeframe outlined in the University's overall social media strategy. This position will use reporting to identify trends and areas for improvement. This position will report and respond to customer issues to the appropriate area for action, if necessary. The incumbent must possess the ability to produce reports, KPIs and benchmarking to advise the marketing team on effective content production and strategies for student engagement. The incumbent must be able to effectively communicate with incoming students, direct student ambassadors, and maintain a helpful and friendly brand voice online, and help new student workers understand the Business Services areas, operations and services. The social media coordinator must be able to use emerging communications technologies/platforms and design skills to execute a multi-media social strategy that includes graphics, photography and video.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a closely related field that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Job Duties
  • Responsible for managing and executing the Business Services social media strategy for multiple current and future platforms (e.g., Facebook Pages, Instagram, TikTok) and creating and managing the Business Services content calendar.
  • Monitors and responds to customer inquiries on social media within the recommended 24-hour timeframe outlined in the University's overall social media strategy.
  • Uses reporting to identify trends and areas for improvement. This position will report customer issues to the appropriate area for action, if necessary, and respond to customer questions and feedback.
  • Works directly with student workers to plan, organize and arrange content creation, videoing, scheduling and ideating campaigns. Promotes user-generated content and works to improve engagement and increase Business Services social media account followers.
  • Establishes KPIs and sets benchmarks for the improvement of content quality and production.
  • Responsible for running Business Services and vendor partner promotions, giveaways and social media campaigns.
  • Create graphic assets, photography, short-format video and other assets for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts for both Business Services and vendor partners.
Other Work Responsibilities
  • Assists with student orientation staffing to ensure adequate coverage
  • Assist with copy-editing as needed
  • Assist with recruiting student ambassadors
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Bachelor's degree with academic experience in marketing, graphic design, digital media, journalism, communications or fine art
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience creating content for personal business, corporation, non-profit organization, or as an influencer
  • Understanding of higher education University setting and appropriate tone and voice
  • Experience with using social media analytics to inform content production
  • Ability to make content recommendations based on interpreting social media analytics
  • Experience creating photography or designs for social media graphics
  • Customer service experience and ability to respond to online complaints in an appropriate, constructive tone and voice
  • Ability to maintain a consistent, friendly and helpful brand voice across social media channels
  • Design planning and content planning skills, including experience with social media management tools such as Sprout, Hootsuite or Loomly
  • Ability to use GSuite for education tools (Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Docs, etc.)
  • Content creation for social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and/or TikTok)
  • Quantitative and qualitative skills with proven data interpretation abilities
  • Social media analytics
  • Graphic design and design planning skills
  • Ability to help recruit, organize and direct student content creators
