University of North Dakota is Hiring a Post Doc Research Fellow Lab - Nookala Lab Near Grand Forks, ND

Salary/Position Classification

Purpose of Position

The Nookala lab in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow who will work on an NIH-funded project aimed at investigating the role of IgA-coated bacteria in intestinal dysbiosis and brain changes in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The Postdoctoral fellow will contribute to the understanding of:

a) how longitudinal changes in the composition of IgA-coated gut bacteria correlate with changes in behavior and brain pathophysiology in AD; and

b) how cross-presentation by oral gavage of sorted IgA-coated bacteria from older AD mice to young AD mice may drive peripheral and AD-related neuroimmune changes, notably early onset of AD, cognitive impairments, and behavior.

Duties & Responsibilities

* The Postdoctoral fellow is expected to handle and work independently with multiple mouse models of AD. The successful candidate will employ a range of interdisciplinary techniques including but not limited to sorting of IgA-coated bacteria, oral gavage, immunohistochemistry, CITE-seq, IgA seq, metabolic assessments, and behavior studies. The candidate is expected to be detail-oriented, be able to work independently and as a part of a team, plan and conduct experiments, analyze data, maintain a good record of experimental protocols and results, present data regularly in laboratory meetings, department seminars, and symposia, write the manuscripts for publication, help in training lab personnel, and present their work at national conferences.

Minimum Requirements

* PhD in Neuroscience

* Experience in mouse models

* Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in mouse colony maintenance, breeding and genotyping, oral gavage, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections, and blood draw

* Experience in conducting mouse behavior studies and histology

* A minimum of one first-author publication in a peer reviewed journal
