POSITION TITLE: Assistant AD / Associate AD of Strategic Communications
COMPENSATION RANGE: 55,068.00 - 64,853.00 USD per year

Position Summary: The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of theuniversity striving to achieve the same standards of excellence in athleticsthat exist within academic programs. The program is concerned with the physicaland mental welfare of the student and strives to ensure that everystudent-athlete has the opportunity to succeed academically and obtain adegree. Sport programs are a vital function of the University at large.
The position is responsible for all aspects of the Athletics StrategicCommunications unit with primary focuses in the following areas: mediarelations, Internet/multimedia, publications, broadcasting, social media,budget management and staff supervision.
Job Duties:
1. Oversee all aspects of the Athletics Strategic Communications unit, with primary focuses in the following areas: media relations, statistics, publications, Internet, multimedia, and social media. Responsible for budget management and staff supervision including one full-time staff and students. (20%)
2. Media Relations/Statistician: Serve as primary contact for designated sports; oversee media relations for all sports.
  • Serve as on-campus host for media.
  • Coordinate media interviews withcoaches, student-athletes and staff.
  • Produce official statistics,media notes for assigned sports.
  • Travel with assigned sports as necessary.
  • Develop relationships withlocal, regional and national media outlets; pitch stories to mediaoutlets; provide stories when requested by media
  • Maintain historical records andstatistics.
  • Prepare news releases and web articlesfor all sports.
  • Take photos and video, and workwith others to create content.
  • Coordinate award nominations. (30%)
3. Publications: Work with marketing and development departments to ensure quality of all printed materials;
  • Provide graphics, text andediting and work with graphic designers as necessary.
  • Oversee and edit all contentand oversee production of all sport record books.
  • Oversee production of gameprograms for required sports.
  • Assist with special eventpublication, i.e. Hall of Fame, Den Awards, etc. (5%)
4. Internet/Multimedia: Oversee all design and content of website including news and feature stories, photos, rosters, schedules, etc.
  • Manage relationship andcommunicate with website design/hosting companies.
  • Supervise and edit content forall sports and the department on www.UNCBears.com and any otherdepartment websites.
  • Produce all content related to assignedsports.
  • Assist with live videobroadcasts as required, including serving as primary game day contactfor play-by-play and color broadcasters.
  • Assist with broadcasting andproduction as needed.
  • Assist with Athletics socialmedia accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube; producecontent, advise on how to best utilize team accounts and serve asprimary contact for social media management tools. (30%)
5. Coordinate student worker staff, including:
  • Work with campus entities torecruit and lead student staff and interns in photography, game day andgraphic design.
  • Coordinate photography forsporting and special events. (10%)
6. Other Miscellaneous duties. 5%
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field such as Journalism or Communications
  • At least two years of experience in college athletic communications or related field.
  • Must have a strong background in writing, editing, design (print and web) and be able to oversee all publications produced by the Athletic Communications Department.
  • Must be able to manage the Athletic Department website and oversee production of all multimedia content.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with members of the media, coaches and student-athletes,
  • Proficient with graphic design programs and video editing software. Ability to supervise all Athletic Communications staff.
  • Proficient in social media management and execution.

Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.
