University of Oregon Rowing is Hiring a Head Rowing Coach Near Eugene, OR

Organization Description

The University of Oregon Rowing Team has a rich history dating back to our founding in 1967 and has one of the strongest alumni bases on campus. Our team operates under the Club Sports Department of the University of Oregon, with much of the administrative work handled by the officer board. The teams boathouse is located at Dexter Lake in Lowell, OR approximately 30 minutes from campus.

Role Description

The University of Oregon Rowing Team is looking to hire a full-time head coach for the 2024-2025 school year. We are seeking a coach who is dedicated to fostering athlete growth and development while making an impact on our program. The hire date for this position is August 2024 (classes starting in late September).

As the head coach, you will primarily be working with our varsity squads. Our practices are six days a week, starting early in the mornings from 5:30am-8:30am weekdays, and 8:30am-11:30am Saturdays. We typically race 2-3 regattas in the fall, and 3-4 regattas in the spring. You will be responsible for writing training plans, working with assistant coaches, helping recruit new athletes, build connections with UO Rowing Alumni, and facilitating growth and stability for Oregon Rowing as a whole.

Our team is composed of intelligent, hardworking, and dedicated individuals who are determined to succeed on the water and in the classroom. Joining our team provides an opportunity to continue growing our team's legacy and work with some of the brightest students on campus. The head coach is expected to help facilitate where needed and provide direction and support for administrative work.

Role Expectations/requirements:

  • Attend and lead all practices
  • Create training plans
  • Maintain equipment(help with repairs if necessary)
  • Provide guidance for assistant coaches & other supporters
  • Work directly with alumni for strategic planning and long-term goals
  • Travel with the team for all regattas
  • Commitment to athlete growth through integrity and sportsmanship
  • Help students handle administrative tasks as needed
  • Ability to connect with and mentor athletes
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Have or be willing to obtain Oregon Boaters License
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
