University of Rochester Medical Center is Hiring an Associate Director of Research and Research Education Near Rochester, NY

To support this mission, the University’s Office of Equity & Inclusion seeks an Associate Director of Research & Research Education (RRE) .

The RRE Associate Director is a vital leadership role in developing and supporting divisional strategic priorities that align with the University of Rochester Medical Center's Office of Equity and Inclusion goals and strategic priorities to build an equitable, diverse, and inclusive learning and work environment for students, staff, faculty, and researchers.

The RRE Associate Director will mainly focus on collaborating with leadership to develop, implement, and assess strategies and programming that reach across research, clinical, and/or academic domains. This includes creating solutions towards desired outcomes and goals for the recruitment and retention of communities underrepresented in science, while also looking at future trends and creating solutions (programming). The Associate Director will research, write, and submit grants in collaboration with the Office of Equity and Inclusion and department representatives to support related pipeline programs and maintain relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities Include:

Strategic Planning and Operations:

Provides leadership in developing and implementing integrated operational and administrative programs for research and education within the URMC Office of Equity and Inclusion. This involves creating and analyzing department metrics to shape strategy, addressing systemic barriers for underrepresented groups, integrating equity and inclusion practices across all operations, collaborating with internal stakeholders on various initiatives, and managing budgets for equity and inclusion efforts in research and education.

Culture and Climate:

Provides inclusive leadership to foster an anti-racism, supportive, and respectful climate for all research community members, especially learners. This includes building restorative practice and social justice infrastructure, offering advisement and crisis support, and developing strategies to enhance engagement and support for underrepresented groups within the SMD and URMC community.

Recruitment and Pipeline Program:

Provides recommendations and evaluations for SMD's research recruitment efforts aligned with equity and inclusion goals, researches and writes grants in collaboration with URMC and department representatives, and ensures compliance and effective operation. The Associate Director also represents the department in the local community, building partnerships with organizations serving diverse populations at the university, locally, nationally, and globally.

Training and Development:

In collaboration with Culturally Responsible Management and Learning and Development, develops a comprehensive strategy for building and managing a department/division-wide training and development program for faculty, learners, and staff.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years of relevant experience required, including working with research students and programming for higher education.
  • 3 years of experience in Diversity, Equity, and Cultural Competence leadership preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 2 years of experience in a managerial capacity preferred.
