Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This position is a Time-As-Reported (TAR) assignment that allows individual(s) to work approximately five months (July-November) based upon the amount of application files received and the needs of the organization. Combined with a spike in applications (over 6K) and realized efficiencies in Operations, we have record levels of admissions files to review. Screener positions are designed to supplement the resources needed to reach current screening levels and to offer assistance and expertise to the admissions committee. Screeners function primarily as first reviewers for the admissions office and are expected to read on average five files per hour. Screeners will be assigned applications by our Admissions Coordinator.

Candidates must exhibit excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills in a diverse environment, as well as the ability to demonstrate a professional and resourceful approach. Must possess demonstrated customer service experience that incorporates a global perspective along with commitment to diversity and ability to work in a team setting with all levels of management and staff. Screeners need to convey an enthusiastic attitude, display excellent judgement, and possess solid time management skills. Screeners work autonomously and yet function as part of a larger team.

Proficiency in Word, Excel, and web applications is required; weekend and evening work is likely. Regularly scheduled and ad hoc one-on-one meetings with the Assistant Director and Associate Dean are likely. Occasional attendance at meetings on-campus or via a virtual meeting platform may be required. Additional cross-training within Admissions may also occur.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Credentials Review:

  • Ensure that the minimum number of recommendation/committee letters is sufficient to evaluate students for admission purposes, follow-up with applicants or schools for missing required documentation necessary to complete the evaluation, if needed.

Documentation and Recommendations for Admissibility:

  • Screen MD applications to determine if the student should or should not be invited for an interview. Summarize screening observations with notes in the AMP system and enter clear notes to support interview recommendations.
  • Enter screening recommendation (invite, reject, high priority, or AMS Consideration) into the AMP system to facilitate the movement of files for further review.
  • Complete required comprehensive descriptive notes to guide the Veteran Screener and the Associate Dean.
  • Screen applicants for the AMSNY Post-Baccalaureate program who may need additional educational enrichment prior to enrolling in our MD program.

Attend Regularly Scheduled Trainings and Meetings:
