University of Rochester is Hiring an Exec Director, Residential Life and Housing Near Rochester, NY

Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Leads the management, administration and strategic planning for a large, complex residential housing system that includes undergraduate, graduate and off campus housing programs for the institution. Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of residential communities (both undergraduate and graduate) focused on strengthening co-curricular learning, promoting community interaction and inclusiveness, and enhancing retention and graduation rates. Completes short- and long-term facilities planning, including debt management, deferred maintenance and renovation schedules, and capital projects for new and existing campus residential facilities (undergraduate and graduate) in collaboration with stakeholders.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Leadership

  • Oversees the undergraduate Residential Life program for undergraduate students with a focus on supporting students' academic, social, and personal growth. Incorporates emphasis on inclusivity, the University's Meliora Vision and Values, and the development of skills to succeed in a diverse society.
  • Oversees the Graduate and Family housing & Off-Campus Living programs, focusing on building strong and inclusive graduate and family communities on campus and off-campus living programs to support the growing housing needs of undergraduate and graduate students living in neighborhoods around the University. This includes policy development and cultivating positive neighborhood and city relations.

Strategic Planning

  • Develops, implements and evaluates organizational long-term strategic plans, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures. Forecasts housing demand and specific housing needs for the future.
  • Directs and oversees all fiscal resources associated with housing program. Manages multi-year budgetary strategies, including major capital improvements and investments. Oversight of technology service and enhancement in partnership with University IT.
  • Provides advice and consultation to senior University officers related to policies, long-term planning, and standard practices in the field of student housing.

Fiscal and Operational Management

  • Fiscal management of a cost center generating more than $55 million to include budget preparation and long-term financial planning.
  • Provides accurate monthly and annual financial reviews.
  • Promotes fiscal responsibility and compliance throughout all levels of the department.
  • Oversees housing operations management, including the housing application, assignment processes, procedures and protocols, billing, and pricing for all undergraduate and graduate housing.

HR People Management

  • Through directors, assistant directors directs supervision of a team of managers, professional and administrative staff, up to forty graduate staff and more than 200 undergraduate student staff employees.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with all Human Resource and Student Employment protocols and requirements.
  • Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.

Health Safety Compliance

  • Provides oversight to ensure that residential facilities adhere to high standards of cleanliness and repair and that operations and expenditures are conducted appropriately and cost-effectively.
  • Oversees collaboration with Environmental Health and Safety regarding fire safety compliance, pest control management, and appropriate sanitarian approvals.

Student Life Leadership

  • Participates as a key member of the Vice President for Student Life leadership team, including program and policy development, crisis and emergency response, and on-call protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • PhD preferred
  • At least 12 years of experience in residential life, housing services, or student affairs, with progressive leadership responsibilities required
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of professionals required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and campus partners required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of residential life principles, student development theory, and best practices in housing operations required
  • Experience developing and implementing residential programs and initiatives that support student success and retention required
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to housing operations, including fair housing laws and ADA compliance required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-informed decisions and address complex issues required
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to create an inclusive and welcoming residential environment for all students required

Pay Range

Pay Range: $107,224 - $160,846 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined byconsidering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
