Responsibilities
General Purpose:
Retail Clerks staff the Campus Mail Center's customer service windows and are responsible for understanding postal rates, classes, regulations, shipping services, and cash handling. They handle and are accountable for cash, credit, Blue Req, and URoS funds and postage stamp inventories. Retail Clerks have high levels of customer interaction and must demonstrate effective communication skills. They are expected to work within a team framework; share and communicate information to team members and management; and be able to use independent judgment and problem solve within the scope of their assigned tasks.
Job Description/Task List - Essential Duties:
Retail Transactions - conduct point-of-sales retail transactions to include the sales of USPS postage and postal products, private carrier shipping services; package store products; and mailbox rentals. Provide thorough knowledge of U.S. postal regulations including rates, classes, and special services; competitive shipping rates offered by various shipping carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL; independent use of small equipment and tools such as cash registers, scales, and specialized price-shopping software.
Money Handling - maintain, handle, and account for designated funds including postage stamps, cash, credit cards, checks, and URoS; manage cash drawers to include balancing and conducting proper cash-outs; report sales.
Customer Interaction - answer general questions and provide customers with relevant information regarding USPS postal rates and regulations, private carrier shipping services; Campus Mail Center information processes and procedures; answer phones; respond and resolve customer and student inquiries and complaints.
Parcel Receipt and Delivery - receive and verify incoming packages/parcels from various carriers and University Couriers; utilize electronic package tracking system to account for receipt and delivery of parcels; identify and research incorrect 'mystery' packages; process 2nd and final notices; return unclaimed packages; track daily incoming package volume; unload and load hampers.
Mail Handling - accept delivery of student mail from the USPS, private carriers, and University sources including letters and flats; sort student mail into boxes; maintain mail tracking metrics; prepare outgoing mail for carrier pick-up; forward student mail; return undeliverable mail; look up and re-route misaddressed mail; update student records as needed in student forwarding program.
Area Maintenance - ensure that the workspace is clean, organized, and tidy; all tools and materials are stored in their proper location; maintain package reuse station; recycle appropriately.
Safety/Security - maintain safe and secure environment in accordance with University and department guidelines.
Other Duties as Assigned - reassignment to any task that meets the needs of the University, department, or customers as required.
Education/Experience (minimum required):
Good verbal communication and customer service skills; be able to read, work with numbers, and handle cash; be able to type/keyboard 25 wpm. High School Diploma and one-year related experience, or an equivalent of education and experience.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $16.50 - $21.45 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined byconsidering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
