University of Saint Francis is Hiring a COHS Undergraduate Science Faculty Near Fort Wayne, IN

POSITION TITLE: COHS Undergraduate Science Faculty
DEPARTMENT: Department of Medical Sciences, College of Health Science
POSITION STATUS: FT (12 month)
POSITION REPORTS TO: Medical Sciences Department Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the COHS Undergraduate Science Core director and coordinator, the COHS Undergraduate Science faculty member is responsible for teaching classes within the COHS Core undergraduate courses, specifically focusing on Microbiology for Health Sciences lecture and/or lab classes. Faculty may also teach lecture or lab for Anatomy and Physiology or Pathophysiology lecture for Health Sciences. Faculty must possess and demonstrate a positive outlook on continuous course assessment and teaching enhancement and improvement efforts while maintaining a team-based and student-focused mindset. This is a full-time, 12-month position with teaching duties.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
Teaching & Related ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibility of a faculty member is effective teaching. For details on university academic and employment policies and faculty responsibilities – See USF Employee and Faculty handbooks and academic catalogs. This faculty role will specifically focus on teaching COHS Core Microbiology courses, both lecture and/or laboratory as well as other Health Science courses as needed.
Faculty Are Expected To
  • Teaches course load as specified in contract.
  • Teaches courses consistent with the catalog description and curriculum maps.
  • Teaches assigned classes at the scheduled time and place.
  • Collaborates with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review.
  • Effectively communicates with direct supervisor.
  • Submits reports and requests for information promptly.
  • Engages in Scholarship as defined by the Boyer Model, including, but not limited to activities identified in the faculty handbook.
  • Respects the moral and religious beliefs of the university and students; uses discretion when expressing personal beliefs and views.
  • Attends college, program, and university meetings as requested.
  • Creates an effective learning environment for students.
  • Inspires confidence and supports innovation in students.
  • Provides timely feedback and fairly evaluate students’ progress.
  • Evaluate student classroom and laboratory performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success.
  • Proposes plans to improve students’ performance.
  • Maintains appropriate records such as field practicum evaluations, anecdotal notes, and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Medical Sciences Department Director or Dean of the College of Health Sciences

Minimum QualificationsEducation
  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in biology, biomedical sciences, or other closely related disciplines.
  • ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (or Medical Technologist) or ASCP categorial Microbiology certification (M or SM) preferred.
Experience
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred
  • Experience using a variety of teaching modalities, educational technology, and delivery methods including online or hybrid preferred.
Knowledge And Skills
  • Demonstrates competence in educational principles, instructional methods, evaluation techniques and technology used in higher education classrooms, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations
  • Demonstrates proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.
  • Demonstrates skill in goal setting and team building.
  • Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities.
  • Demonstrates honesty and loyalty to the University and support its mission and religious affiliation.
  • Demonstrates ability to coordinate services to the needs of diverse populations within the time and financial limits of the institution.
  • Must be willing to work irregular, and sometimes long hours, including weekends, and university breaks.
