POSITION TITLE: Health Administration and Medical Science Program Director
DEPARTMENT: Medical Sciences
POSITION STATUS: Full-time (12-Month)
POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of the Department of Medical Sciences
JOB SUMMARY: With consultation of the Director of the Department of Medical Sciences and Dean of the College of Health Sciences, the Graduate Healthcare Programs Director is responsible for providing effective leadership in curriculum development, implementation, evaluation and staffing of the graduate healthcare programs (i.e., Master of Healthcare Administration, Doctor of Medical Science, and others, if board approved), and coordinating with related programs.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
  • Manages and updates program documents (e.g. catalog, academic plans).
  • Assists the department director in the preparation of brochures and marketing materials for the programs.
  • Reviews syllabi to ensure classes are taught consistent with USF guidelines, content map, and the catalog description.
  • Develops, implements, assesses, and revises program curricula to achieve current standards.
  • Develops course schedule and monitors course sequence and offerings.
  • Coordinates academic advising, supporting, and assessing student academic achievement.
  • Maintains contact with alumni.
  • Provides effective leadership in development and implementation of programmatic mission and vision for improvement through strategic planning.
  • Prepares programmatic accreditation reports and other reports/analyses as requested.
  • Oversees program budgets and collaborates on corollary budgets (e.g. capital, library, technology).
  • In conjunction with the department director and dean, establishes and maintains contractual agreements, including affiliation and articulation agreements, with other agencies and institutions.
  • Makes recommendations regarding the appointment, mentoring, evaluation, and dismissal of adjunct faculty in the programs.
  • Develops, administers, and maintains program records, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists with the curricular development and implementation of a Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) program if board approved.
  • Effectively communicates program issues to the department director.
  • Provides effective leadership in oversight of student recruitment and retention responsibilities.
  • Leads new student registration and recruitment activities.
  • Leads efforts to plan, implement and evaluate marketing of programs.
  • Assures effective advising of students enrolled in graduate healthcare programs.
  • Recommends students for scholarships and awards to the department director.
Teaching & Related ActivitiesResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibility of a faculty member is effective teaching. For details on classroom and clinical responsibilities – See USF Faculty Handbook. Faculty are expected to:
  • Teach and instruct in the department as assigned.
  • Teach courses consistent with the catalog description and accreditation standards.
  • Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meet required contact hours.
  • Engage in best-standards while developing and evaluating program curriculum.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review.
  • Maintain effective communication verbally, in writing, and electronically with students, faculty, the department director, and administration.
  • Assist with evaluation of adjunct faculty members.
  • Submit reports and requests for information promptly.
  • Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and for the profession.
  • Create an effective learning environment.
  • Facilitate critical reflection and support innovation in students.
  • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate students’ progress.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success.
  • Propose plans to improve students’ performance and perform remedial instruction when necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate records such as test scores, anecdotal notes, and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress.
Programmatic Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in the Shared Governance model of the department and program interview days as designated by the Department Director.
  • Participate in the annual review and revision of the department and program mission statement, vision statement, and goals.
  • Participate in program and department evaluation and assessment.
  • Carry out administrative projects/duties as assigned by the Department Director.
Other Responsibilities
  • Adhere to teaching, service, scholarship, and other responsibilities identified in the employee handbook.
  • Responsibilities may be adjusted for special assignments at the discretion of the Department Director and Dean.

Minimum QualificationsEducation
  • Hold a Doctor of Medical Science (DMS/DMSc), Doctor of Physician Assistant (DPA), or Doctor of Health Science (DHS/DHSc) required.
Experience
  • Possess three or more years of professional experience in public health, business administration, or healthcare administration preferred.
  • Experience with higher education curricular development, planning, and oversight preferred.
  • Experience with teaching graduate-level coursework online or on-ground preferred.
Knowledge And Skills
  • Demonstrates competence in educational principles, instructional methods, evaluation techniques and technology used in higher education classrooms, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.
  • Demonstrates skill in goal setting and team building.
  • Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities.
  • Demonstrates honesty and loyalty to the University and support its mission and religious affiliation.
  • Coordinates services that meet the needs of diverse populations within the time and financial limits of the institution.
  • Must be willing to work irregular, and sometimes long hours, including weekends and university breaks.
