The Assistant Dean of Business Operations serves as a senior strategic partner to the Dean of the Darla Moore School of Business. Reporting to the dean, the Assistant Dean works closely with other members of the leadership team and is responsible for the administration, fiscal management, budgeting, IT, and human resources management at the college.
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree in business administration and 8 years of experience, including 5 or more years of experience in a higher education setting, as well as at least 3 years of overseeing all aspects of HR, Budget and IT teams.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA, CPA, CGFO (Certified Government Finance Officer), or Master of Accountancy and 8 or more years of experience plus working knowledge of PeopleSoft, USCERA and Banner.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Fluency with all Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of governmental accounting fiscal policies and procedures as they relate to administrative and business practices. Knowledge of USC policies and procedures, state and Federal laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to business activities of the DMSB. Banner and/or USC experience in related areas. Ability to plan, organize and direct complex financial, administrative, and support activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively. Managerial experience.

Participate in strategic planning and executive decision-making, represent the college on university matters related to administration and operations. Takes a leadership role in partnering with colleagues to advance a shared mission. Contributes with senior leadership to ensure the creation implementation and measuring success of the Strategic Plan. Advises the dean and actively contributes to the long-range planning of the colleges departments and units taking into consideration the institution’s strategic plan and initiatives. Prepares and delivers detailed presentations to the Dean, faculty, staff, and other university constituencies or partners.

Serves as the College’s Chief Financial Officer. Responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the budget development short-and long-range planning process. Ensures that the colleges operates in a financially controlled and secure manner for all accounting and financial management in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Interprets financial policies, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of accounting records, and delivery of services to the customers served by all accounting operations. Ensure compliance with university policies, and state and federal laws and regulations. Develop strategies and initiatives that strengthen the college’s financial functions to ensure efficient use of university resources while providing a high level of customer service. Oversees the finance/budget team.

Oversees human resources and payroll actions relating to faculty and staff. The office also oversees the administration of faculty awards, professorships, and endowed chair payments.
