University of Tennessee, Knoxville is Hiring a Project Manager - Temporary Part Time Near Knoxville, TN

Position SummaryThe University of Tennessee is partnering with the American Institute for Boys and Men to create a consortium of researchers and practitioners in the area of male achievement in higher education. In support of this, we are seeking a Higher Education Male Achievement Collaborative (HEMAC) Project Manager who will be instrumental in shaping and steering this initiative to success. The consortium is a learning community for fostering awareness, learning, innovation, and collaboration for the purpose of improving male outcomes in higher education. The consortium will achieve these ends through various activities, including shared online spaces, regular webinars, an annual conference, and production of resources, toolkits and social media. This role will manage the consortium in close collaboration with a faculty director and with partners in the College of Social Work; the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences; the Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs; the Haslam College of Business; the UTK Division of Student Success; and the American Institute for Boys and Men.
This position is a remote, 50% part-time position and is contingent on annual contract renewals.Functions/ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Lead the development of the consortium, including creating goals, strategies and ensuring activities align with the mission.
  • Continuously assess the needs, desires, and feedback of network participants to inform programming.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the University of Tennessee and the American Institute for Boys and Men.
  • Engage with academics and practitioners to harness expertise and align consortium goals with research and on-the-ground insights.
  • Forge and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders to broaden consortium reach and efficacy.
Network Management
  • Track and manage the participation pipeline, including inbound requests and active outreach to recruit members.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of a virtual collaborative space for the consortium.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media and digital plan to enhance consortium visibility and engagement.
Event Management
  • Coordinate and moderate regular webinars, driving the discussion on new research, shared challenges, and promising or innovative practices.
  • Organize and manage the annual conference, ensuring an operationally smooth event as well as the alignment of themes and activities with consortium objectives.
Additional Operational And Administrative Oversight
  • Develop project plans, including timelines, resources, and budget, ensuring all consortium activities are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Manage outside contractors and ensure performance meets standards
  • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure successful project completion.
  • Manage contracts, grants, and coordinate with financial departments for budget oversight and compliance.
Required QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with diverse set of stakeholders.Strong organizational and communication skills.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of project management experience (or related work).
Preferred QualificationsEducation: Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Social Work, Education, Economics, or related field
Experience: Project management experience (or related work), preferably in higher education or related nonprofit sectors. Familiarity with the higher education landscape and issues surrounding male achievement. Experience in developing and managing educational or community outreach programs.

About The Baker SchoolThe Howard H. Baker Jr. School for Public Policy and Public Affairs (Baker School), was established in 2023 to honor the distinguished life and legacy of Howard H. Baker Jr., a former US Senator, Senate Majority Leader, White House Chief of Staff, and Ambassador to Japan. Located in a 51,000-sq. ft purpose-built facility, the Baker School evolved from the Baker Center, which for twenty years has operated as a think-tank producing research, public engagement programming, and an active set of student programs. The Baker School is very excited to add degree programs and to grow its research programming into independent research centers. In addition, the Baker School houses the Institute of American Civics, which is responsible for encouraging civic knowledge and civic participation among UT undergraduates and the state at large.
