University of Tennessee System is Hiring an Equipment operator Near Grand Junction, TN

Equipment Operator, Ames AgResearch and Education Center

Location : Grand Junction, TN

Position supplies general farm labor to execute research projects on large scale research projects. This position will be responsible for executing research projects with direct supervision.

Additionally, the position will have some responsibilities maintaining infrastructure such as fencing, vehicles, equipment, pasture maintenance and other duties as assigned by the Research Associate or Center Director on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities

  • Row-crop responsibilities such as planting, maintaining and harvesting various agricultural crops at this location.
  • Supervises the hay and baleage making process, as well as, maintaining farm equipment associated with the beef cattle unit.
  • Oversees pasture management, building fences, in addition to buildings and property maintenance.
  • Responsible for maintenance, repair and servicing farm equipment such as tractors, combines, cotton pickers, hi-cycle sprayers, disks, do-alls, planters and vehicles associated with row-crop production.
  • Assisting with applications of fertilizer and a vast array of row-crop protection products and / or using different types of agricultural farm equipment to plant, maintain and / or harvest forage and pasture crops for grazing, hay and baleage for feeding livestock.
  • Assisting various managers with moving and caring for livestock on the Ames REC.

Required Education / Experience :

  • High School diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
  • One year experience operating agricultural equipment with a basic knowledge of maintenance, repair and upkeep.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Required Skills / Abilities / Knowledge :

  • Knowledge of agricultural equipment and the ability to make mechanical improvements.
  • Skill to operate various pieces of agricultural equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate and properly maintain agricultural equipment.
  • Knowledge of animal husbandry working with cattle and horses.
  • Ability to lift 50-100 pounds.
