THIS IS A PART-TIME GRANT-FUNDED POSITION (35 HOURS PER WEEK)
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Technician 2 conducts experiments to study cellular mechanisms in Alzheimer's disease mouse models. This position initiates new studies to explore novel pathological mechanisms involving fibrinogen-mediates pathways in glial-vascular connection for vascular dementia using eNOS deficient mouse models in conjunction with hypertension.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Establishes good eNOS mouse colony to allow studies of sex differences at various ages.
* Performs experiments in eNOS mouse models (blood collection, administer compounds) and collects brain tissues or perfuses brains for histology.
* Establishes assays for fibrin/fibrinogens (ELISA, WBs) and tissue distribution.
* Receives training in basic lab techniques involving mouse models.
* Receives training on surgical procedures in mouse CNS brain.
* Obtains and demonstrates sufficient skill in qPCR, Western blots, immunocytochemistry/immunohistochemistry, and microscopy.
* Collects, interprets, describes, and documents complex analytical and evaluative research data.
* Works with PI on manuscript preparation.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in one of the sciences. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal eight (8) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
* Excellent organizational and communication skills.
* Ability to follow directions on experimental protocols or requests from Principal Investigator.
* Ability to maintain a schedule and accomplish goals.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.
