Job Details:
Purpose
The University of Texas School of Nursing, Instructional Technology Specialist is an essential and engaging role that supports nursing faculty in educating nursing students. The instructional technology specialist plays a critical role in fostering collaboration between faculty members and IT support services, contributing to the seamless integration of technology into the teaching and learning environment within the School of Nursing. This role involves ensuring that faculty members' technology needs in both physical and digital learning environments are met efficiently. The position also provides day to day technology support for the School of Nursing educational activities through collaboration with other internal and external support departments.
Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for faculty members seeking IT educational support, providing timely assistance and guidance.
  • Collaborate with faculty to understand their specific technology needs and requirements, advocating for solutions and improvements.
  • Coordinate the implementation of technology solutions tailored to meet faculty needs, including hardware, software, and infrastructure.
  • Provide ongoing support and training to faculty on utilizing digital learning environments effectively, including Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), third-party tools, and classroom technologies.
  • Stay updated on relevant regulations, standards, and best practices pertaining to educational technology and digital learning environments.
  • Collaborate with external partners such as the Office of Academic Technology and ITS to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Engage in regular meetings and discussions with external partners to stay informed about developments and initiatives related to educational technology.
  • Represent the interests and needs of the School of Nursing faculty within external committees, working groups, or task forces focused on technology standards and compliance.
  • Foster partnerships and collaborations with external stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise for the benefit of School of Nursing learning environments.
  • Back up technology educational support to the Simulation & Skills center for learner activities (simulations and skills course support).
  • Back up technology educational support to the LEAP department for all external and internal activities (conferences, summer camp, continuing education events, etc.).
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Education, or related field.
  • Previous experience in providing technical support or customer service in an educational environment preferred.
  • Strong understanding of classroom technology systems, including projectors, audiovisual equipment, and interactive displays.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with faculty members and IT professionals.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with educational software applications, learning management systems, and instructional technology tools.
  • Proficiency in computer equipment and office software MS Word/Excel/Teams/PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate ability to think critically, troubleshoot and take action to resolve issues.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Education, or related field.
  • Strong experience with Canvas learning management system, Academic IT support, and training/supporting Faculty end users
Salary Range
$50,004 - $55,000 FTE ($25,002 - $27,500 prorated, half-time basis)
Working Conditions
  • 20 hours per week; Monday to Friday; 4-hour shifts to be arranged with supervisor
  • Work is performed in office, classroom, and clinical lab settings.
  • This position primarily operates in an office environment, with occasional visits to classrooms and IT support facilities.
  • Flexibility in work hours may be required to accommodate faculty schedules and address emergent IT issues during evenings or weekends.
  • Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This is semi-sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, caring, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
