Essential Functions
- Develops and fosters relationships with student leaders and student lead organizations.
- Coordinate student elections and other student appointed activities.
- Advise student government/class leaders and organizations; promote, facilitate, and coordinate program and activity development for students, organizations, clubs, committees, events and activities including but not limited to Associated Student Body, organized dentistry groups, clubs, fraternities and study clubs.
- Develop and coordinate large-scale student events including, but not limited to Matriculation Week, class retreats and student leadership / administration leadership dinner.
- Advises current and incoming students on leadership, student life, student resources, including student leadership, health, wellness, housing, travel and reimbursement information.
- Manage student life social media campaigns, strategies and initiatives; oversee day-to-day management of Student Life social media platforms.
- Disburse student support resources and provide advice and direction in times of student crisis response and intervention in collaboration with the dental school administration, Student Life and Counseling and Psychological Services; inform and update appropriate administrators of emergency student-related situations.
- Develop and distribute online surveys for diversity, equity, and inclusion, student events, orientations, retreats, programming and activities.
- Prepare and analyze reports, proposals, and presentations related to diversity and student engagement initiatives.
- Research latest innovations in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB); gather data and provide recommendations on programs, initiatives, processes, and procedures.
- Coordinate planning and implementation of DEIB initiatives, events, and programming to advance DEIB goals and objectives.
- Assist in development of DEIB training programs; facilitate training and dialogues.
- Develop department reports, presentations, materials and other communications.
- Coordinate student travel to local, regional and national conferences.
- Process vouchers, authorization for payment forms, reimbursements, requisitions, purchase orders, and other administrative forms.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Diversity and Student Engagement.
Knowledge of:
- Higher education procedures and protocols.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Office methods and procedures.
- Principles of business letter and reporting writing.
- Customer service principles and practices.
- Minimum three years of experience working in an administrative support or student services role.
- High School diploma.
- Position is full-time, 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week.
- Requires occasional weekend or evening assignments, on and off-site.
- May involve some in-and out-of-state travel.
Knowledge of:
- Student services policies and procedures in a graduate program.
- Electronic calendar, Canvas, Banner, Qualtrics, EMS, and WebAdMIT are highly desirable.
- Social Media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn.
- Working in a higher education institution.
- Public speaking including delivering presentations and facilitating panel discussions.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in organizational leadership, higher education or a relatable field.
- Communicate effectively and foster relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Effectively manage multiple projects and assignments and meet deadlines.
- Respond to last minute changes appropriately and professionally.
- Work independently and in a team environment.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Compose/edit professional business letters and reports.
- Organize assignments and set priorities.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Project a professional, helpful, and caring demeanor.
- Provide excellent customer service to all constituencies.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
